With fifth judge confirmed, Trump outpaces Obama and Bush

President Trump may be facing a roadblock on the rest of his nominees but he’s outpacing his predecessors when it comes to getting federal judges confirmed after his fifth court pick was approved by the Senate on Tuesday.

Alabama lawyer Kevin Christopher Newsom was confirmed to a seat on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on a 66-31 vote, with 16 Democrats joining the GOP. He’s the third circuit judge approved so far, and combined with one district judge and Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, it puts the president and the GOP-led Senate well ahead of pace.

By comparison, President Obama had zero judges confirmed in his first six months in office and it took him until November of 2009 to get three circuit court nominees cleared through the Senate.

FR is wonderful but is addicted to doom and gloom threads. Good stuff never gets half the comments as the Russian unicorn threads.

“...but given that Newsom is not being nominated for the Supreme Court but for Eleventh Circuit, he would not be in a position—for the moment, at least—to overturn Supreme Court caselaw in that or in any other area.”

True. But should an on-point case percolate up to his court, he can rule such that it gets appealed and taken-up by the Supremes, which would be dominated by “our guys” by that time.

it would be awesome if Kennedy, Breyer or RBG decided to hang up their robe(s)!

Maybe if we sent them a strongly worded letter.

“Ruth is a travesty that sucks!”

Yes, and she’s been on the SCOTUS long enough to do some real damage to our country. I haven’t been much on religion for many years, but if God still manages to love us, I hope He will create the way for Donald Trump fix what’s wrong at the SCOTUS! And He can arrange for Soros to go too!

I agree. There are over 100 vacancies all over the country. This is the most important job trump has. The judiciary is a mess.

Do you think we could actually get the 15 Democrat Senators that would be needed (plus all 52 Republicans including the RINOs) to remove those Obama judges in an impeachment trial? 67 guilty votes are needed.

>>Also wonderful that Mitch McConnell is actually accomplishing significant progress in helping President Trump shape the judiciary for generations to come.

I’m surprised to hear that McTurtle has actually done something helpful for President Trump.

If nothing else is accomplished during the Trump Presidency, putting SANE Constitution loving Judges on the Bench (especially the SCOTUS) will be one of his greatest accomplishments that helped preserve the Republic.

The Never Trumpers seem to forget that the makeup of the SCOTUS being left to Liberals was and is the greatest threat we face as a Free People.

The Wise Latina and the other Guy Obama appointed to the SCOTUS was the proof in the pudding.

Thomas had a “confirmation environment much more forgiveness ng than today?” In a pigs eye! That man went through insane intimidation and extended public humiliation over the basest of sexual accusations that had zero merit. What a nasty circus that was.

Weird. Didn’t the Dems have super-majorities in the Senate at the start of Obama’s tenure?

If what Thomas went through was made into a Hollywood movie, it would be considered over the top. Truth is stranger than fiction. Seeing a black woman talk about pubic hair on coke cans in front of her former black boss was shocking. He endured. The one good thing George Bush I did was stand squarely behind his nominee Clarence Thomas—a man who famously called his nomination hearing a “high tech lynching of a black man”. Only the most cynical leftist could dream of pitting a “sexually harassed” black female against her former boss a proud, honest black man. As Jerry Maguire said, “we live in a cynical world, a cynical world.”
