WASHINGTON — The Senate overwhelmingly confirmed Christopher A. Wray as the next F.B.I. director on Tuesday to steer the United States’ premier law enforcement agency through a politically fraught period as it investigates whether any of President Trump’s associates colluded with the Russian government during last year’s election.
The confirmation of Mr. Wray, a former federal prosecutor, is likely to be a relief to many agents at the F.B.I. who want a strong director to stave off any attempts by the White House to meddle in its investigations. The deteriorating relationship between Mr. Trump and the previous F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, was widely viewed as harmful to the bureau.
Mr. Trump summarily fired Mr. Comey in May, infuriating many F.B.I. agents who saw it as disrespectful.

Awful choice. One, he is a lawyer, not in law enforcement.
Two, we needed a Director that would kill the wrong idea that the President may not “meddle” in their investigations.
He IS the Chief federal law enforcement officer in the USA, just as he is THE commander in chief of the military. A general may not over rule him in a military manner. And an FBI man may not over rule him.
The FBI is not an independent agency, set as a watchdog over the executive branch. The mentality at the FBI today is utterly against the Constitution.
No surprise, that ratty branch is a pure distilled product of the Wilson progressive era.
