Seas rise, trees die: Climate change before your eyes
ABC News ^ | August 1, 2017 | By WAYNE PARRY, AP

They're called "ghost forests" — dead trees along vast swaths of coastline invaded by rising seas, something scientists call one of the most visible markers of climate change.

The process has occurred naturally for thousands of years, but it has accelerated in recent decades as polar ice melts and raises sea levels, scientists say, pushing salt water farther inland and killing trees in what used to be thriving freshwater plains.

Efforts are underway worldwide to determine exactly how quickly the creation of ghost forests is increasing. But scientists agree the startling sight of dead trees in once-healthy areas is an easy-to-grasp example of the consequences of climate change.

"I think ghost forests are the most obvious indicator of climate change anywhere on the Eastern coast of the U.S.," said Matthew Kirwanker, a professor at Virginia Institute of Marine Science who is studying ghost forests in his state and Maryland. "It was dry, usable land 50 years ago; now it's marshes with dead stumps and dead trees."

It is happening around the world, but researchers say new ghost forests are particularly apparent in North America, with hundreds of thousands of acres of salt-killed trees stretching from Canada down the East Coast, around Florida and over to Texas.

Fake News...
The Ghost Forests in the NW are already well understood as being caused by the last Cascadia earthquake and resulting Tsunami.

scientists call one of the most visible markers of climate change.

What did they call it before they came up with this silly phrase?

omg... amazing assumptions going on in the article...

trees that grow to a certain height in a marsh are suddenly killed by rising waters... no.

the trees have grown there for what looks like 10 years and then the root system cannot provide for a tree that large and it dies. morons.

The process has occurred naturally for thousands of years...

But it's not natural anymore?

...it has accelerated in recent decades...

Could it have something to do with the fact that we now have the tech to track every square inch of the planet?

Uh, okee doeky then. What trees were in place before the giant calibfornia redwoods? Where did they go? Who cut them down? How did “Icky” end up in the Great Basin in Nevada? For inquiring minds, ask some warmunists to answer these simple questions:

1. Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet.

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

Wasn’t there a recent report posted here that sea levels are falling?

It appears that there is no truth if there is power to be gained.

Meanwhile, more of Canada become arable as the “warming” spreads north.

Soon pineapples, coconuts and bananas from Quebec.

[The process has occurred naturally for thousands of years, but it has accelerated in recent decades ......]

Of course. Pick a naturally occurring phenomenon and embellish it with propaganda.

And what’s he got against salt marshes?

They’re vital, thriving habitats in their own right.

If these scientists are to be believed and trusted, we must immediately connect all glaciers north of the US to a fleet of tow trucks and drag them back down to where they were before the formation of the Great Lakes.

Can they explain the topographic map of Narragansett Bay, printed in 1777 and how the ocean level is the same as it is now? Same bay, same ocean, same map, same temperature.
All these academic’s seem to forget that lots of people have lived and worked near the oceans for a long long time and they weren’t and aren’t idiots.

The subsidence of some coastal areas exceeds the rate of the lowering of sea level due to increased retention of ice in many areas such as the Anarctic and Greenland.

There you have it in one sentence. That will be 1 billion USD please. Cheap.

Paypal or money order will be fine.
