Before rising to power as one of the most infamous leaders in the world, Vladimir Putin was a playful, hipster-dressing man in love. From his early childhood, to his wedding and family life, here's a look at the Russian president's private life in his mysterious formative years.

I don’t see it either. He looks like a very depressed dork.
Vlad has always been a very conservative and private man. He is probably the greatest leader Russia has had going back to Catherine the Great.
He looks like the Spectre villain Kronstein (chess player) from the James Bond movie “From Russia With Love”.
He’s a squinty-eyed KGB agent in a bad suit.
I don’t know why Russian men can’t get decent suits - no matter how much money they steal - they still end up looking like Leonid Brezhnev.
There were no “hip” people in the soviet union.
Those photos simply made Putin appear normal.
It doesn’t matter what we think of him. What matters is what the Russian voters think of his ability to lead them as the U.S. ruling class tears our country apart over a hissy fit that their girl didn’t get elected and Russia makes plans to harvest all those mineral rights that Russia claims in the Arctic Circle.
That first one looks like Emo Phillips in a fur hat, seems pretty hipsterish to me.
There is a fascinating story behind the actor who played Kronstein. He definitely had that evil look.
Sometimes politicians and salesmen (but I repeat myself) wear a bad suit intentionally. “Never wear your best suit to go begging.” Ted Cruz springs to mind.
Well, Ted Cruz is another subject entirely; his entire persona is odd and was a major reason why he was rejected by the voters.
But Russian men, in general (as Jared Kushner knows, they overrun Manhattan real estate), are the worst dressed men in the world. Vlad, included.
Just watched him in Kanal, the 1957 Polish movie about partisans who used the sewers of Warsaw to move throughout the city. He had a major role in it; strange looking man.
I think I see the discrepancy. If you dress like the 1970s...now...you’re a hipster. If you did it in the 1970s, it just means you dressed like most people at the time.
Maybe it’s a throwback to the USSR days, wearing anything other than a bad fabric sack of a suit straight off the rack from GUM would’ve gotten you dragged off in the middle of the night under suspicion of being a running dog capitalist lackey.
I think that’s it. Plus, Russian men have squat, peasant-like bodies and they haven’t yet figured how to make that look elegant!
Yeah, he looks real “hip” in those multi-colored 80s track suits :P
Yeah sure Putin was a hipster in a KGB sort of way.
Wearing a fur hat in the US is “hipsterish”, wearing a fur hat in Russia just means you want to still have ears come spring.
It’s hip to be square.
He was KGB Liaison to the Stasi. Those types were not fun-loving guys.
