Unimpressed Trump Sends Pentagon Back To The Drawing Board On Afghanistan
Breitbart ^ | 07/20/17 | Edwin Mora

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump, unimpressed by the Afghanistan war options presented to him during a White House meeting with his full national security team Wednesday, suggested they may have to go back to the drawing board to craft a strategy that does not mirror the failed ones employed by his predecessors, said an administration official.

The meeting came as the Pentagon briefed lawmakers about plans to increase the U.S. military footprint in the country.

Contrary to mainstream media claims that the president has taken a completely hands-off approach to the 16-year-old conflict in Afghanistan, Trump presided over Wednesday’s meeting primarily aimed at discussing the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan, a Trump administration official familiar with the deliberations told Breitbart News on condition of anonymity.

President Trump indicated that he is not satisfied with the strategy as it currently stands.

The Pentagon and White House National Security Council (NSC) declined to provide specifics about the developing plan.

President Trump demanded that his team go back to square one if necessary and create a realistic plan that ensures Afghanistan is ultimately able to stand on its own as a country, said the administration official, noting that the meeting served as a sort of wake up call for those involved in developing the strategy.

It appears that besides the Pentagon, the NSC has at least some authority in setting the strategy.

Asked about the meeting, the Pentagon did not confirm nor deny that the President asked officials to go back to the drawing board.

Once i started to understand that people in Afghanistan LIKE the Taliban because when they’re in charge there is law and order, I started to think we might be backing the wrong horse there.

How is it that nobody we elect understands this? Germany and Japan were militarily crushed, and eventually, there was a buy in by the population of both of those countries to the Allied occupation. The Japanese people were obedient to Hirohito, which made things easier.

“Now you know why the Deep State hates President Trump so much. This is their cash cow.”

I bet that is a good reason why they hated “Peace with Honor” in Vietnam. Many in the Deep State back then probably got very wealthy off of how Johnson, McNamara, Dean Rusk, and others conducted the war over there even though the Cong could have been put on the ropes very early on with a fight to win strategy.

Genghis Khan made a credible effort, but even he failed.

It could be done, but the first world nations which have the tech, do not have the will.

And frankly, after 50 generations of first-cousin inbreeding, thanks to Mad Mo who proclaimed it was a capital idea, we don’t need their defective DNA, not at all.

Good.

any plan that does not include killing ungodly boy rapers is no plan worth following. I have no idea what plans he was presented.

We need to develop deep ground-penetrating-radioactivity neutron bombs, just to be REALLY sure.

Don't these Pentagon clowns have a hell of a lot of nerve! I can't believe these a$$holes are so tone deaf not to pick up on the Administration's (and the national) vibes.

The only plan that is acceptable is withdrawal. And torch everything on the way out.

Right again.

Your book is a really good read, btw. I finished it last night. You owe me about 6 hours of lost sack time. Just saying.

Best,

“The only way Afghanistan could stand on its own as a country would be as an islamic country. You know, like it was before we sacrificed all those lives on this futile mission. Reality sucks but that is just the way it is. “

Yes, and we can thank BOOSH for all those deaths and the trillions of dollars we pi$$ed away there for absolutely nothing. We don’t have enough blood or treasure to fix the world. Time to concentrate on just fixing what’s wrong with our place.

Never going to happen.

Afghanistan is like a Badger living down near the creek, if it don’t bother you, you leave it alone, if it starts killing your chickens and attacking the family, you kill it and make damned sure the whole animal is dead.

Maybe chop it’s head off with a shovel and bury it before sundown at a crossroads just to BE SURE...

I disagree to some extent. When we first went in we did it right. We sent in special forces supported by air power to back one side (the Northern Alliance) against the other (Taliban). Then we sent in Marines to go after specific targets. Again, many Afghans were willing to make deals with the Marines. Afghans understand making deals with more powerful tribes against their enemies, and they viewed the Marines as another powerful “tribe”. Where we went wrong is trying to install a central government. That’s the strategy, everything else is tactics. The problem is tribesment aren’t loyal to the “country” of Afghanistan. They are loyal to their tribal leaders, and will fight anyone who tries to impose a higher authority. That united them against us. Our best bet is to quit trying to prop up a government and go back to buying off selected tribes and supporting them against our common enemies.
