“We are going to ship rice to China??? Isn’t that offensive to liberals?? Isn’t that cultural appropriation???”

Probably somehow racist to assume the Chinese would want to buy rice.

At least if there is any 'white' on it.

The US imported $50 billion in auto/parts from Japan in 2016.

Plenty of opportunity to put the screws to Japan’s rice farmers AND many other industries.

Chinese agriculture is still at times really primitive. The farms are small and a lot of the machinery is still pulled by oxen. Most of the young people have moved to the cities for jobs and a lot of the farmers are at least middle-aged.

So yes, there is a market in China for US rice. Especially since a growing number of Chinese do not trust Chinese made products.

that’s true but remember china is 100% for china. it’s nothing to put 10 million out in the rice paddies, they are still communist ya know. Or heck, hire north koreans.
This rice deal is trivial. I want to see buy American steel only, f free trade, we need to bring that industry back. Plus they used to always use coal for their plants, maybe a switch over to cheap NG can help. More steel jobs and fracking jobs. No not minimum wage or part time like Obama but real good paying jobs and keeping Americans working.

I believe that California rice growers produce a glutinous variety that is very popular.

Big rice fields in Calif. 10 years means got the right man in the WH.

Pretty amazing, huh? It doesn't appear to be reported much, but the man knows how to get things done. :)

Interesting. Perhaps some wild rice? That appears to be native to northern climates:

From Wikipedia: Northern wild rice (Zizania palustris) is an annual plant native to the Great Lakes region of North America, the aquatic areas of the Boreal Forest regions of Northern Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in Canada and Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Idaho in the US.

Besides being a genius with political toons, his timing like President Trump is incredible.

Wild rice is also grown in Northeast California although
the quantity is minute compared to the amount of regular
varieties grown in the upper Central Valley.
