Using the force of law to establish a one-size fits all solution is not the free market. Giving people a choice between smoking and non-smoking restaurants would be the free market way.
The Washington Post laments that the decline in U.S. smoking rates has largely been thanks to the massive decrease in smoking among the educated middle and upper classes. Among the poor, 40% continue to smoke.
Of course, this presents a dilemma to liberals. The punitive hikes in tobacco taxes were supposed to make it too expensive for poor people to smoke. Instead, the people paying for all the programs that are funded by tobacco taxes, programs that liberals love, are the people who can least afford to while those who were least impacted by cigarette price increases were the ones who quit.
The WP article was almost incredulous in tone. "How dare you wealthy people quit paying your fair share of tobacco taxes!"
Americas new tobacco crisis: The rich stopped smoking, the poor didnt.
The correlation of smoking to bladder cancer is higher than smoking to lung cancer believe it or not.
Frequently a smoker is diagnosed with lung cancer when in-fact it is bladder cancer that has metastasised to ones lungs, the second most common place for cancer of any kind to metastasise to.
when Black Pastors spoke after meeting with President Bush in 2001, they observed that the Bush staff was obsessed with what they WERE.
WERE they Conservative? ARE they Republican?
The Black Pastors observed that they were concerned about what people do, not what they are. What was the Bush Administration going to DO? What did the Bush Administration expect them to DO?
Is Christian to BE like Jesus? Or to DO what he commanded?
This dichotomy permeats much of our society.
Conservatives complain about the lack of coverage of conservatives in straight news stories. When Conservatives get together, they BE Conservative. Some BE more Conservative than others.
When Lefties get together they DO ACTIONS.
The media inherently covers action and does not cover the inaction of being anything.
Are you crazy...of course thats a concern but that’s not what we were talking about. Its about control Nazis banning smoking and not allowing a formerly free people to make up their own minds,
And the public schools now serve "free" meals throughout the summer so their kids don't go hungry.
You need to chill and remember that we’re supposed to be AGAINST the overreach of gov’t in denying people FREEDOM.
Obesity has just as much, if not a greater impact on a person’s health as does smoking. Yet, you support the government’s involvement in telling bars and restaurants “No smoking, but keep on serving up the “never ending pasta”...sure sport.
You’re the one spewing “vile effluent” in support of authoritarianism disguised as a “public service”.
Sorry, no sale.
Name calling is the last resort of someone who doesn’t have the intellectual ability or class to discuss issues they don’t understand.
I know a good therapist who can take care of your problems.
I quit cold turkey on March 1.
I no longer feel discriminated against. Just miserable.
Oh, yeah, and four months AFTER I quit, I suddenly developed high blood pressure.
“Pirate Ragnar hasn’t created an about page.”
You posted that smokers wreak———that makes absolutely no sense.
Is THAT simple enough for you???
.
Thank you for that info. I have never been thtough DEN but you never know. I found that Atlanta does as well but I haven’t been through there either.
As far as "simple" goes - you roll up some leaves, put them in your mouth, set them on fire and inhale, while greatly shortening your life expectancy - downright stupid.
Oh,for heaven’s sake-——look up the definition of the word “wreak”.
Your original post said,”Smokers wreak.”.
It made no sense, and still doesn’t-——you used the wrong word.
.
“———— while greatly shortening your life expectancy -”
Pretty funny——I’ll bet I’ve been around a lot longer than you have, smoking or not.
