I don’t blame smokers; however the tobacco industry knowingly selling something both addictive and harmful legally when other substances will get you in prison for even possession is inconsistent.

The legality/illegality of other substances aside, smokers know what they're doing every time they buy a pack of cigarettes and light up. They're addictive and they cause all kinds of diseases including cancer. That's printed on the side of every pack.

Can't blame the tobacco companies for making a legal product that a minority of people CHOOSE to use and suffer the consequences of as a result.

With all due respect, it is the legality that is entirely the point. Things of equal harm and addictiveness should be treated alike.

That and regardless of legality, if you sell/distribute something that causes sickness and death, then the ‘legality’ means nothing; after all abortion is legal many places but there’s little love here for abortionists.

Yes, adults have free will, and anyone taking up smokintg NOW is an idiot, or at least deserves no sympathy, however the tobacco industry fought tooth and nail any studies or assertion that their product was addictive when they (and many scientists) knew it, so may they rot in hell right next to any abortionists or drug dealers.

Secondhand smoke is a killer

Well that's certainly the big lie the MSM convinced you of believing. The EPA itself was busted for perpetuating that lie, which ranks right up there with the global warming crap they want you to believe.........

The Second-Hand Smoke Charade

You don't like cigarettes, smokers or second hand smoke, I get it and I will respect your wishes.

With that being said, where is your outrage at the number one substance that has been responsible for the break up of families, domestic abuse, job losses and traffic fatalities?

It certainly isn't second hand smoke, it's ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION! So where is your personal demand to ban the sales of alcohol where non drinkers would like to congregate? Such as bars where the smokers have already been banned?

So who ultimately profited from the states wide lawsuits against the tobacco industry Sons of Liberty? It was the fricken lawyers first then the payouts to the states where the monies went into the general fund under the auspices of providing healthcare for the "victims" of the tobacco industry!

You need to change your screen name to "Sons of Tyranny" since you have no problem in supporting government control based on your own personal biases.........

The next time your Second Amendment rights come under assault, you'd better damn well hope the smokers you have demonized are firearms owners...........

It really is.

If I miss a run or kettlebell session I feel worse, sometimes much worse.

Heavy lifts (deads, squats bench) were much the same; those endorphins are the equal of anything from my cigarette (and other assorted Acetylcholines) days in terms of *need*. Even worse is that the appeal to my innate vanity of having a flat gut rather than the beer belly of most of my friends (being 56) is just as intense ;-)

That and regardless of legality, if you sell/distribute something that causes sickness and death, then the ‘legality’ means nothing;

Why stop at cigarettes then? I have a friend that's a heart surgeon. Every time he does a bypass he points out the "pizza" section of the heart, the "red meat" section of the heart, etc.. He's done enough of them over the years that he knows looking at someone's heart while he's performing a bypass whether they ate too much pizza, smoked, ate too much red meat, etc.. so why don't we ban all those things too? They cause sickness and death, right?

I'm not a smoker, I've never put a cigarette to my lips and lit one ever. Having said that - where do we stop banning things that can cause sickness and death?

Alcoholism runs rampant in my family, over-drinking caused my father alcohol induced dementia from which he ultimately passed. Who's fault was it, Budweiser's (his favorite beer) or his own? It was his.

Where do we stop banning things that make people sick and rather hold them accountable for their own actions?

BTW, yes adults have free will and contrary to your statement "anyone taking up smoking NOW is an idiot" I'd argue anyone who continues to smoke is an idiot with everything that's known about it.

Again, the warning is on the side of every pack. Any idiot can read it. The tobacco companies are not responsible for anyone who chooses to take up smoking, or continues to smoke.. That warning has been there since some point in the 1960's to the best of my knowledge. We're 50 years past that warning being there......

don't expect me to subsidize their medical when they start to have "problems".

That's already been taken care of dude in the settled states lawsuits against the tobacco industry. Those multi billion dollar payouts went into your state's fund designated for healthcare of those suffering the effects of tobacco smoking.........There's not one cent of your taxes helping them out with the alleged medical problems.

Since you suffer from selective outrage, where's your concern about the destruction of families due to alcohol consumption?

Oh, I’m totally against banning them.

I think people should take responsibility for their actions, no argument. Just find the condemnation of drug dealers/users and even drinkers pretty silly when cigs are legal. And yes, anyone who continues to smoke has no one to blame, although, again, with all due respect, if you haven’t smoked and/or are unaware of the physiology of the addictive nature of nicotine (much worse in terms of creating neurotransmitter sites, and thus cravings, than its cousins heroin and cocaine) you might be judging something without all the data; I’m not a weak willed person, but quitting smoking was damned hard (well worth it, of course).

To answer another question in your post- “Where do we stop banning things that make people sick and rather hold them accountable for their own actions?”, I say we don’t. The only possible exceptions being either people legally considered too young to be responsible for their actions or where use has a high likelihood of causing damage to an innocent party, such as DUI.

Yeah, your surgeon friend is echoing what my doctor told me, which is “I’m not going to tell you what you *have* to do, Mr Reynolds, but I am saying that I have become almost entirely vegetarian and so have nearly all of the other doctors in this hospital’. It’s one thing to be preached at, it’s something else to see what people who actually know what they are talking about are doing; I’ve cut down the crap foods a LOT.

Nah, banning stuff will never work; if they ban cigs it will work about as well as banning weed or meth has, or banning alcohol did. And I’m likewise of the belief that if they legalize weed it won’t make much of a difference in who uses it recreationally but it WILL take a lot of income away from the illegal cartels.

Nope,just a FReeper with a good,basic education-——who also smokes.

I DO have a Thesaurus though, have had it for many years. The Thesaurus wouldn’t be of use in the case of “wreak” and “reek” though. Different situation altogether.

“If I miss a run or kettlebell session I feel worse, sometimes much worse.”

Two of my kids are runners(marathons),and a grandaughter ran the Boston last year.

They all say that running is a mental as well as a physical therapy.

(In 1959 I ran-——— to catch a bus.):-)

.

Good luck to you.
