There is no Constitutional basis for the Federal government's war on drugs. It is not a power given to the Fedgov by the Constitution and those powers which are not expressly granted are reserved to the States and the People.

If a State's Constitution empowers the State to regulate drugs then have at it. There was a time when the States were called the Laboratories of Democracy and each was free to try their own methods to solve their own problems and much was learned by the various attempts to find solutions. Not so much anymore with so many of the one-size-fits-all mandates being forced on the States by the leviathan Federal government. I'm glad to see Oregon trying a new approach to the problems drugs cause. I'm also glad I don't live there.

“I’m all for decriminalization of all drugs - but only if full responsibility for consequences is put on the user”

Fat chance of that happening. You know quite well who will bear the consequences.

It is the Democrats goal to promote freedom without responsibility.

We can’t trust people not to triple post, can you imagine what they will do if free to have these drugs?

On its face, one would think this would be true. Legalizing weed in Cali however has not put a dent in illegal, cartel grow ops in the forests. Possibly because the market has grown as a result, perhaps because it’s still heavily regulated.

Did it ever occur to you that you could raise your kids to be part of the solution instead of the problem?

It’s because FR has been so slow. You hit the post button and nothing happens, so you hit it again, and maybe one more time. Eventually they all get through.

You may have noticed there have been quite a few multiple posts today.

Those guys on the street corner in the hood selling drugs will be out of business. Gang wars over drug territory will be reduced. Addicts want need to go to the shady side of town in crime infested areas when they can go to their local drug store. Revenue can be created by taxation. Over doses will be reduce because users will know what they are getting and the strength. I quit doing drugs years ago after experimenting in college, so I don’t have a dog in this race. I just think something new needs to be tried because the war on drugs program has failed.

far more people lose family and friends due to traffic accidents, many of which are caused by bad and illegal driving; should we thus criminalize the operation of a motor vehicle, for the benefit of those family and friends...?

Man, are you caught up in the propaganda or what? Imagine how much other stuff you believe that are just stupid lies?

They should also deny any social services to users of the crap who render themselves unemployable or need to be institutionalized.

“So Oregon wants to be the Mecca for drugs.”

It’s probably best for the rest of us if most users gather in one place.

I support decriminalization of marijuana.

Same answer. No social services for heads when they've toked themselves into unemployable oblivion.

Legal sale doesn't begin until next year.

OMG FRiend, don't get me started! It drives me crazy that people make themselves unemployable (ear gauges, over the top piercings, facial tattoos, etc...) then go whining to the Government that they need money because nobody will give them a job.

End welfare first, then you can legalize all the drugs you want.

Two thoughts.. one, all the users wind up in one state.
Two, I am ok with this if producers and distributor get automatic death penalty to be carried out within 60 days of the guilty verdict.
