LANSING, MI -- Gov. Rick Snyder on Friday vetoed a bill that would have created a "choose life" fundraising license plate option for Michigan motorists.

Senate Bill 163 would have the state develop and issue a fund-raising license plate with the message "choose life." The funds raised by the purchase of these plates would have gone to the Choose Life Michigan Fund, controlled by anti-abortion group Right to Life Michigan, to fund things like pregnancy centers.

It passed 25-11 in the Senate and 65-43 in the House. But it failed to get a signature from Gov. Rick Snyder.

I lived in Texas and was transferred to Georgia. Georgia only required a rear plate. You could put whatever you wanted on the front, so we left the Texas plate on the front. When we moved to New Jersey, we got some strange looks.

Just how out of touch is Gov. Snyder? Even Massachusetts has "choose life" plates.

Yup,I've even seen one or two of them.OTOH,here in the Gay State one sees hundreds of those silly "Animal Friendly" plates. The ratio,as far as I can tell,is about 1,000 to 1 in favor of "Animal Friendly".

Only two dems supported it in the house. Need 2/3. It passed 65-43 in the house. All Republicans in the house voted for it. Only two democrats voted for it, both in the house. It passed 25-11 in the senate with all but one republican voting for it.

RINO Rick and Tory Rocca in the Senate were the only "Republicans" to oppose this.

He raised my taxes, enabled Obamacare, vetoed two pro-life bills, is anti-gun.

I regret voting for him in 2014. I only voted for him because I put up with Marky Mark Schauer for a congressional term when I lived in Washtenaw County.

"Islam is against birth control of any kind."

Yeah, they wait until AFTER they're born - then they use birth control (honor killings), especially for the females.

Snyder is a spineless rino. This would have cost him nothing, he is term limited so there was no reason to veto this.

I agree, The licence plate exist to identify your car. Anything else on the plate is just getting in the way of that goal.

If you want to send some other kind of message they got a much bigger canvas on which you can apply something called a bumper sticker.

If you want to support a cause donate to them

Yeah, but I think only the 2/3 in the Senate is meaningful, house is just majority rule.

Their is a subtext to this...

Who got the bill going, what is he doing, and does Rick Snyder like him?

State Senator Pat Colbeck got it going, He is running for Governor since Snyder is term limited, yes he is conservative and he is well known and loved with the grass roots base and no, it is obvious Snyder doesn't like him...

That is as Paul Harvey would say is the rest of the story....

Google Senator Pat and his background, he is a rocket scientist, literally!

"The 'Choose Life' license plate is a political message that has the potential to bitterly divide millions of Michiganders and that, in my view, is not appropriate for a state-issued license plate," Gov. Rick Snyder wrote in a veto letter to the legislature.

That was the same point Democrats made in opposing the bill in the legislature.

Wow. Fail.

I thought about that. I met Pat Colbeck from the Cruz campaign. He’s got my vote.
