Some of the top CEOs of technology companies in America met with Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, praising him for hosting an afternoon summit on important tech issues.
Im absolutely convinced that during your administration there is going to be a huge explosion of new opportunities because of the platforms that are getting built in our industry, Schmidt said to Trump after the meeting, as over a dozen CEOs went around the table to make comments after the meeting.
Schmidt said that the combination of entrepreneurs, skilled workers, and immigration would provide huge growth in the American economy.
Its going to happen soon during your leadership, he predicted.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said he was pleased that Trumps son-in-law Jared Kushner and his daughter Ivanka Trump were bringing technology companies together in the Trump administration to help streamline government.
The U.S. should have the most modern government in the world, and today it doesnt, he said, predicting that the tech innovations made in the Trump administration would pay back immensely in the future.
Cook also offered advice to Trump, suggesting that the federal government needs to be more focused on the people, which was not how it currently operated.
The government should be focused on its citizens, and the services of the government should be measured on how pleased the citizens are with receiving its services, he said.
Cook also told Trump that computer coding should be a requirement for public schools.
We have a huge deficit in the skills that we need today, vs. the skills that are there, he said.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also praised Trumps administration for forming the tech innovation council, telling Trump that his team could be the innovation administration.

Oh goody, now I don’t have to feel guilty when using Amazon Prime for the time being.
bringing technology companies together in the Trump administration to help streamline government.
I hope they mean eliminating waste and duplication in the functioning of government, and steer clear of, say, that which is found at the IRS or any other area where they can get their hands on personal, private info.
Jared, Ivanka: Your dad's voters are very protective of their privacy, or what's left of it today.

“...Be nice if Bezos got WAPO off Trump’s back...”
This was my first thought was well and I thought this meeting could be an excellent development if this were to now happen as a by product of maybe the start of a decent relationship between President Trump and Bezos.
It has been upsetting that Bezos has been using so much of his power and influence via his WAPO propaganda machine to leak fake news and undermine the President. The Bezos’ owned WAPO has been been non stop in attempting and succeeding in some cases to sabotage the Trump Presidency.
This could ease up now, perhaps, if Bezos realizes that it is better to work with our President... something that I was hoping for ... we will see but this could be a good first step for the anti-Trump fake news to start reigning itself in. I have less hope for the NY Slimes run by that Mexican.
Very smart move.
They’re probably blown away by the fact that they’ll be able to make money without having to have bought him off with lobbyists.
I'd rather see instruction on critical thinking become a requirement in public and private schools, from the elementary grades and on into high school.
Didn’t see a report on this...certainly with any glowing specifics....on WaComPost’s front website page, this morning.
Nothing but continued Trump/Trump admin bashing :(
Be nice if Bezos got WAPO off Trumps back.
Every conservative’s first thought.
He meets with everyone. He’s smart. He knows if he listens, they’ll respect that. Problem is, most liberals don’t want to listen to what YOU have to say. I’m surprised at the Tesla guy quitting.
If the GOP would do some of the heavy lifting for him, it’s going to be a great 4 or 8 years, My Friends.
Taking a typing class is one of the few smart things I did in H.S.. It led to better duty in the military - which was substantial.
I worked with teletype for some time. I could type faster than the machine could handle when I was making a perforated tape for transmission.
Ah, the good old days.
Immigration? Needing fewer people to do more is what computers are FOR. What a maroon.
Same here. But by the time my offspring were one the scene, developers had invented game programs to teach typing, and kids could start to learn it when they were 6 and 7 years old. Mine had one featuring the cartoon character Mario. Lots more fun than those drills in a classroom full of noisy typewriters, too.
As long as you're not left-wing, you're doing fine.
My first thought, as well. Hope he knows they are snakes before he takes them in.
I totally agree. If they could break up Bell Telephone and other big utility companies, they can surely break up Amazon.
Hey! These "guys" were part of the meeting also:
Left to right: Safra Catz, Co-Chief Executive of Oracle; Ginni Rometty, CEO of IBM; Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture
See post 57.
Everything tangible needs to be manufactured and shipped. Even the computers and machines used to do that. Manufacturing isn’t last century, what is last century is American manufacturing thanks to Government regulations.
The thought of $$$$ may not keep their foul mouths shut for long. They’ll be back to bad mouthing Trump by the 5 o’clock news.
