what does indigenous mean? does it mean someone who’s ancestors arrived in America 400 years ago? or the Indians that settled in one area less than 200 years ago (likely by wiping out the existing ‘indigenous’)? Is England indigenously Roman or Saxon or Celtic? Is central America indigenous for Indians or only those who can prove Mayan heritage?
what are cultures? is Anglo/Saxon a culture? Is Cajun? Southern cooking? - it’s all America, right? or can Americans only eat 200-yr old recipes local to their own families? what about Greece? or Iceland? or India? what about American territories? Do they have American or native cultures? And which native culture from which ancient conquering? the Spanish? the Portugese? the French? the Dutch? the Mongols? the Polynesian, Aztec or Mayan headhunters? what about Greece? or Iceland? or Africa? How many times have they been conquered?
Shall we make it illegal for anyone other than first through 4th generation Americans to wear jeans? Or own a dog? Should only Egyptians own cats? Is antebellum culture respected the same as in the former slave-centered cultures of New Orleans or Florida or Africa or the Cook Islands? Are chopsticks banned to anyone but Japanese when eating sushi? Only Italians can eat spaghetti? And speaking of slavery, it’s a cultural thing for many areas of the world - is that ok as long as a person is African or Asian?
Since when are women’s bangs ‘chollo’ ? (I always thought they were anime’). Aren’t bangs a Chinese invention? Is dark hair a cultural appropriation? What about long hair - or red hair, or straight hair or blonde hair? Or wigs? or shoes with heels? Or makeup? or beards? or cowboy boots? (or bras).
The entire world has benefited from adapting Anglo culture, systems and inventions but the game now is to restrict cultures to a box?
