MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Coast Guard say federal and state authorities are continuing to investigate a potential threat which was reported at the Wando Terminal Wednesday night.
Coast Guard officials say the FBI is investigating a report of a "dirty bomb" aboard a vessel.

It seems that if there was really a dirty bomb on board, Newark would be more of a target then Charleston. My guess is that this is all BS, and is serving as an exercise, and as a means to discredit the conspiracy theorists.

The only relevancy so I can see from your connections to Charleston is if these are American militia terrorists as Islamic terrorist could care less about your connections that you make. Bundy and his militia buddies are still in jail.
There was a report on FOX Radio at 1:30 AM Eastern time about this story.
They said Coast Guard vessels have encircled a ship in Charleston harbor with a possible “device” on board.
No further details were given.

If the story is accurate, why would the Coast Guard announce what the FBI is doing? And since they did, what did they advise the population to do? Huddle in place? Breath deeply until the danger passes?

In any event, making false bomb threats I think is a crime... they should bust that guy and bill him for the cost of responding to this false threat.
According to Lt. Zorn with the Coast Guard, investigators as of Thursday morning had zero credible information to suggest there is a “dirty bomb” aboard the Memphis. Lt. Zorn reiterated that agencies are investigating the threat out of an overabundance of caution.
Lt. Zorn also said Thursday Coast Guard personnel in major ports such as Charleston are outfitted with radiation detection devices. Lt. Zorn says results are not yet available from a radiation sweep aboard the Memphis by Coast Guard Sector Charleston.

If it happens to be a real one and such a device is found, it will be announced, if anything more is heard of it at all, that there was nothing to it. If it seems to have a Middle East return address we will also hear that it was not a terrorist dirty bomb that wasn’t there.
