The Senate Judiciary Committee is planning on opening an investigation into the events surrounding President Donald Trumps firing of former FBI Director James Comey, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
The investigation could potentially examine whether the president interfered in the ongoing Russia investigation by moving to fire Comey.
The Judiciary Committee has an obligation to fully investigate any alleged improper partisan interference in law enforcement investigations, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a letter announcing the move.
It is my view that fully investigating the facts, circumstances, and rationale for Mr. Comeys removal will provide us the opportunity to do that on a cooperative, bipartisan basis, Grassley continued. The American people deserve a full accounting of attempts to meddle in both our democratic processes and the impartial administration of justice."
The letter was a response to Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., the senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. Feinstein had asked for the committee to complete its own investigation in addition to ones currently ongoing.
The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the FBI and federal law enforcement.
The move follows testimony Comey gave on June 8 to the Senate Intelligence Committee in which he said he thought he was fired because of the Russia probe. I was fired in some way to change, or the endeavor was to change, the way the Russia investigation was being conducted, Comey testified. That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me.
A White House spokeswoman didnt immediately respond to a comment request from the Journal.

Here’s some sense of what Rosenstein says he feels about the politicization of everything:

If these spineless RINOs are looking to take down Trump there will be hell to pay
How much do these investigative panels cost the American public? How much do the members of the panels receive by the hour or day to sit and ask questions?
I am not a lawyer but I understand how they work. Of all the people in a Washington, the ones who work in legal posts simply cannot be as overtly political as anyone else in government. I have had no reservations whatsoever about Sessions, and the only minor reservation I have about Rosenstein is that I don’t know much about his background.
Like perhaps investigating Comey’s illegal leaks to the press?
The GOP is done as a national party and fails to serve the interests of the American people and our Constitution. President Washington warned us about these political alliances.
Comey needed to be fired and so do these freeloading bums.
Actions speak louder than words, and so far I haven't seen much of Rosenstein. What I have seen, I have no criticism for; and as I mentioned above, I find his "fire Comey" memo to be outstanding. Historical.
Maybe. And to keep Comey in the spotlight.
Faux News seemed a little too proud to have a big headline of President Trump Under Investigation for obstruction of Justice. I can’t hear what they are saying tho.
Is there any doubt who owns us? Who runs us? Who has taken away our Constitution as if to take away our Gd given rights?
Busywork so they don’t actually have to accomplish anything menaingful like tax reform, kill Obamacare, welfare reform, etc.
And it gives them facetime to preen and strut in front of the TV cameras.
Yes! It was so much fun the first time, we should do it again! Every Saturday!
I figure you meant somebody else, but I really like the idea of deja vu firing Comey from time to time, and celebrating the discarding of a little chunk of rank corruption.
I am having the sinking feeling that Democrats are in control of both House and Senate.
It’s a sick feeling for me.
Ok. I’ll keep saying it every Saturday. I say it every few days anyway. Comey needed to be fired. Let’s keep firing him. :-)
Yep...you can say THAT again !
McConnell shut this down NOW.
“The investigation could potentially examine whether the president interfered in the ongoing Russia investigation by moving to fire Comey.”
This is stupid. He did discuss the Trump Russia connection in a congressional hearing and there wasn’t any. No investigation going on since mid 2015 has found anything. Just another Trump disgrace attempt.
