Comey firing to be investigated by Senate panel, new report says

The Senate Judiciary Committee is planning on opening an investigation into the events surrounding President Donald Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The investigation could potentially examine whether the president interfered in the ongoing Russia investigation by moving to fire Comey.

“The Judiciary Committee has an obligation to fully investigate any alleged improper partisan interference in law enforcement investigations,” Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a letter announcing the move.

“It is my view that fully investigating the facts, circumstances, and rationale for Mr. Comey’s removal will provide us the opportunity to do that on a cooperative, bipartisan basis,” Grassley continued. “The American people deserve a full accounting of attempts to meddle in both our democratic processes and the impartial administration of justice."

The letter was a response to Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., the senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. Feinstein had asked for the committee to complete its own investigation in addition to ones currently ongoing.

The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the FBI and federal law enforcement.

The move follows testimony Comey gave on June 8 to the Senate Intelligence Committee in which he said he thought he was fired because of the Russia probe. “I was fired in some way to change, or the endeavor was to change, the way the Russia investigation was being conducted,” Comey testified. “That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me.”

A White House spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to a comment request from the Journal.

Investigations are so much more fun than doing your job.

Do congressional Republicans ever investigate anything other than the Republican administration?

Yeah, some strategy. As in continued destruction of Trump.

So tired of this nonsense.

If Health care and tax reform are passed in a timely matter they can have all the time they want to play those games. Just build the wall first.

Perhaps it would be better to have Republicans voted out of office. Better the enemy in front that at your back.

At what point do Congressional investigations become obstruction? The American people deserve answers about the underlying allegations. Enough of this innuendo crap. Pitchforks and torches to Congress.

The good news is that Grassley has daggers out for McCabe.

Of course it is. Grassley has been all over Comey for months. I suspect this investigation will further reinforce the notion that the cowardly, manipulative Comey never should have been appointed to the post of FBI Director in the first place.

This is the Chamber of Crony Capitalism at work .

They precious TPP and global warning scams were stopped .

This is pay back..

Grassley is owned by the DC lobbyists who want revenge .

There is no reason to investigate this unless you want to shut down Trunp .

Oh Good. This means they’ll have to very closely examine Comey and Hillary’s treasonous relationship which explains why he gave her a pass on all of her FELONIES, including keeping Top Secret/SAP documents on her unclassified and unsecured home server. BTW, DID RUSSIA HACK THAT TOO?

Whatever happened to Grassley investigating the FBI trying to pay and hire the guy who wrote the dirty dossier? Where are the investigations in the NSA/FBI improper surveillance? Why aren’t they looking into Susan Rice? Why aren’t they looking into Loretta Lynch?

The Republicans are always virtue signaling. They are like Lucy with the football. No, Republicans, the Democrats will never conduct themselves the same way. No, Republicans, the media will never like you. Now go on the offense you feckless idiots.

We should be thankful for any effort, no matter how useless or trivial, the clowns on both sides are doing for the gigantic salaries and perks paid for by gullible taxpaying citizens.

Feinstein wants to hear it again.

SESSIONS: There was a clear view of mine and of Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein as he set out at some length in his memoranda which I adopted and sent forward to the president that we had problems there and it was my best judgment that a fresh start at FBI was the appropriate thing to do. And when I said that to the president, deputy Rosenstein's letter dealt with a number of things. When Mr. Comey declined the Clinton prosecution, that was really a usurpation of the authority of the federal prosecutors in the Department of Justice. It was a stunning development. The FBI is the investigative team. They don't decide the prosecution policies.

That was a thunderous thing. He also commented at some length on the declination of the Clinton prosecution which you should not do. Policies have been historic. If you decline, you decline and don't talk about it. There were other things that had happened that indicated to me a lack of discipline and it caused controversy on both sides of the aisle and I had come to the conclusion that a fresh start was appropriate and did not mind putting that in writing.

FEINSTEIN: My time is up. Thank you very much.

Yeah, the media had speculated this wouldn’t happen a couple days ago because Republicans are in charge. The media forgot how the Republicans love to throw their own under the bus.
