An Indiana state lawmaker issued an apology Saturday for sharing a Facebook post that critics say suggest rape victims are responsible for being attacked.
Indiana state Rep. Jim Lucas, a Republican who represents Indianas 69th district, said hed been publicly excoriated for sharing his view that women should empower themselves to mitigate their chances of being violently assaulted.

After reading your front page article in the Sunday Star about the tragedy of rape, it would be nice to see a follow up article about the thousands of Hoosier women that are taking steps & learning how not to be a victim, Lucas wrote.
The letter, written on official stationary embossed with Indianas state seal, was met with swift criticism and sparked a week-long debate and hundreds of comments, pitting Lucas and his supporters against others who said the post advocated victim blaming.

How is this statement controversial? He said women should be learning to take steps on how NOT to be a victim. It’s a factual clear statement. Things like women learning self-defense or RKBA. Where in the Hell did he blame women for being raped?
‘How is this statement controversial?’
the statement is not the least controversial; his crime is the R behind his name...
Advocating that women learn how to keep themselves safe is not victim blaming anymore than telling people to lock their doors when they leave the house is victim blaming for burglaries.
OMG, we can't have that! It's much better to be raped but take comfort in the belief that there was nothing you could have done to protect yourself or reduce your risk.
Like being hit by a meteor, you know.
it’s only controversial because a Rep said it. If a dem had said it, there would be gushing praise.
It would be good if we got around to training Republicans to LEAVE RAPE ALONE - there’s no upside in attempting to talk about it. Let the left have it.
So if you tell a convenience store owner who was robbed that he shouldn’t cover his front windows with posters so people can’t see into the store you are blaming the victim?
It is forbidden to teach a woman how to take care of herself because it deprives the Democrats of a member of one of their victim groups.
Sam: Uhm, sorry Bob. We sent the mercenaries away last week.
Bob: WTF? Our scouts have been tracking the Huns moving toward us for months! Why on Earth would we send the mercenaries away?
Sam: Well, the villagers were offended by them?
Bob: Why? Were they misbehaving?
Sam: No. They were being quite polite and preparing the defenses of the city and giving advice to the citizens about how to stay safe in the case of Hun attacks.
Bob: Oh my God! Those bastards were blaming the villagers for the attacks by Huns?
Sam: Yep, only way to interpret how helpful and concerned they were.
Republicans should learn how not to melt like snowflakes when they get heat for having done the right thing.
Double down.
Attack your opponents, from both parties.
Let’s see...Republican, male and—I’m guessing—white...
He didn’t stand a chance.
Seriously? tell that to the poor old women who are attacked on their way home from shopping.
How does my post apply to your old lady?
