Why Conservatives Still Attack Trump
Townhall ^ | May 30, 2017 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 05/29/2017 9:43:17 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When people you know well, admire, and who share your values do something you strongly oppose, you have two options: 1) Cease admiring them or 2) try to understand them and change their minds.

In the case of my conservative friends who still snipe (or worse) at President Trump, I have rejected option one. The reason -- beside the fact that I simply like many of them -- is what I refer to as "moral bank accounts."

Every time we do good, we make a deposit into our moral bank account. And every time we do something bad, we make a withdrawal. These conservatives have made so many deposits into their moral bank accounts that, in my view, their accounts all remain firmly in the black....

Trump is still being attacked by conservatives because there are some people more susceptible to propaganda and narcissistic abuse than others.

We are being gaslighted by the media.

Trump fights back. It’s one of the main things I like about him. One of his most important tools is Twitter. The man’s a genius. We would all do well to watch what he does, how he does it, and learn.

I tend to agree. There's definitely a "method" to his "madness", and he's clearly his own man...

The nation is certainly way more divided now then during the Nixon era. We have elected republican representatives talking about using militias for security, and being assaulted by democrats in their state houses just for trying to enforce the law.

I doubt Trump will resign. He will go down fighting, and either rise or America will burn with him.

This is the hill to die on.

This is it.

All or nothing.

Trump is a doer, not talker like our last 20 years of administrations.

Things are getting done, and the whole world will change because of it.

For the better or worse. Who knows. But Trump is our last chance. This is the hill to die on. For sure.

Ah yes the holier than thou conservatives. The guys who tend to talk about muh principles or how the next guys isn’t as conservative as they but they never seem to be around when it’s time to fight the left. All they’re fire is reserved for the right and the flee the moment the media or the left attacks us.

INDEED!

Jesus Christ: You can't impeach Him and He ain't gonna resign.

I think Hillary is such a catastrophe that we elected President Donald Trump.

If Trump goes down like Nixon did, he’ll still be better than Hillary.

Trump won't go down like Nixon did. My fear is that, if anything, he will go down like Kennedy did.

Dennis hints at but doesn’t nail a big reason; that being the folks he speaks of have too much invested in the status quo. Their own power and money are more important to them than any conservative ideals.

Even Tonald Reagan was not a true ( i.e. pure ) conservative.

These yobs would rather see America destroyed for the sake of their purity

Actually there are three options:

1. Try to understand them and change their minds
2. Try option (1) again, real hard
3. Cease admiring them

I like Dennis Prager very much. The fact that he was once a never Trumper and got over it speaks well for his intellectual honesty.

He’s getting part of it right - that there are conservatives who can’t admit they were wrong, and whose vindication depends on Trump failing.

Prager calls this being “only human”, I call it selfish and cowardly - pure vanity.

The real story of Trump is about the war he is waging with the media.

It’s impossible to understate the vast power of the media and the tight grip they have on the very airwaves that human beings use to communicate with one another.

We The People simply cannot receive information about the happenings on this huge planet without submitting to the large media institutions and whatever spins, filters or outright lies they might choose to apply.

They say “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”, - nowhere does this apply more than on the avenues of communication. The fierce battle to gain control over information in the last century makes the gold rush look like a walk in the park.

Yes, there are a few exceptions, like FR (thank God), but for the most part, the information and communication industry serves the agenda of those who own it and control it, not the recipients.

This is widely misunderstood. News casters go to great lengths to reinforce the myth of objectivity and apparently many buy it. They are far from objective - they are bought and paid for just like the federal government and like the federal government they do the bidding of their owners.

Who are the owners of the government and media? The large industries which discover over time that they can protect themselves from free market competition by purchasing and “weaponizing” government and communication outlets. Bastiat called it legal plunder - using the government (laws) and media to circumvent market competition.

Conservatism is the natural enemy of big government and big media.

This is what Trump is up against - they don’t want him to drain the swamp (they created the swamp for their purposes and they do not want it drained). Trump is s business man - he sees that this bought-and-paid-for government and this bought-and-paid-for MSM are preventing the prosperity that would naturally occur in a competitive market. He wants to fix it. They will do and say anything to stop him.

Everything you hear about DJT is a lie except in a few free spots like FR and Twitter (for the time being). But the minute he twitters, the MSM rushes to repackage it as stupid, childish or foolish.

The last couple tweets I read from Trump were not only spot on true, and things that desperately need to be said.

Dennis is going way to easy on these anti Trump conservative journalist friends of his. They are missing the scoop of the century because they are too close to the problem.

Rubio IS a member of the Gang of Eight, an entity separate from Trump was responsible for the use of illegals, guest workers ARE LEGAL WORKERS, and Trump wants everyone illegal out of the US to come back in in a legal manner.

Cruz did not want to get rid of illegals from non-border states, believed he was eligible to be president when he (Cubnadian) and Rubio weren't, and wanted 500% more legal H1-B guest workers.

Trump is also against Political Correctness in ways far beyond what any other candidate was.

So, could you please tell us your “perfect” candidate this past election? Maybe it was “Hillary?”

Trump despite his flaws...

That phraseology amounts to so-called-conservative virtue signaling. It's a sad attempt by the writer to say he's morally and intellectually superior to Trump and his unwashed hordes.
