Top congressional Democrats officially introduced legislation Thursday to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024, up from its current level of $7.25.

The move marks a stark policy change for the party, which was promoting an increase to just $10.50 as recently as 2015.

"What we are here today to say is that a living wage is $15... If you are working 40 or 50 hours a week, you should not be living in poverty," said Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. He noted it had been almost a decade since the last time Congress had raised the level.

And, HOW much did Sanders pay his campaign staffers? That's right, 12 BUCKS an hour.

Hypocritical POS.

The idiots are now resorting to dredging up other failed ideas to try to contrast themselves with Trump - never realizing they already contrast nicely - their pile of manure to his loaded hot fudge sundae (yes, the specific comparison was on purpose...).

I’m sick of fighting these liberal retards, I honestly thing it would be great to allow NYC or LA to become it’s own country like one of those small European city states and tell them they can pass all the lib legislation they wants and sit back and laugh as they trash their own economy down the tubes.

That’s an 11% compound increase per year.

[ Why stop there. Make it $100! ]

if $15 is good, but $100 is better, why not make it $15,000!

Then you only have to work one a day a year to be filthy rich!!!!

YAY!

On the bright side, the immediate devastation of low wage jobs would slow illegal immigration.

Federal minimum wage:

1) Unconstitutional. Nowhere doe the Constitution authorize the feds to meddle in free-market wages.

2) Economy killer as all wage and price controls are. Cuts jobs, shrinks business, hinders economic growth.

NUKE THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE!!!!

Why only $15 an hour? Why not $50 an hour? Or $100? And free single payer. And a car allowance. Free housing. Government subsidized cafeterias. State-issued clothing. Commissaries.

Why shouldn’t American citizens make as much as worthless congresspeople?

If a person works 130 days a year, he should be a millionaire with a fat pension and complete healthcare coverage for life like them.

They are no better than us. In fact, we’re better than our “public servants”.

What are they planning to do with people who already make $15 an hour, working at a job that is worth $15 an hour?

Exactly right. If it’s a great idea, there’s no reason to stop at $15. It’s a good thing they’re all financial geniuses.

Who have never run even a lemonade stand, apparently.

Alas, it would probably have the opposite effect. If you are law abiding but young and unskilled there won't be a job for you. But the work will still need to be done, so more jobs will be created in the underground economy.

Hell, then they’d bust azz to GTHO of there and come back crying like the little babies they are.

And of course, the pols would let them, just as they allowed chain immigration, etc. All the while standing with the “reunited” families in time for the 6 PM “news”

I think $10,000 an hour will be a great minimum wage.

After a week of work you could retire.

Of course, bread would be $5,000 a loaf but hey.....

$10,000 an hour minimum wage!!!!

It can’t pass, but it can be a campaign issue. Like rolling grandmas wheel chair down the stairs.
