Hey, California, Ready To Spend $400 Billion For Your Single-Payer Disaster?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 5/23/2017 | Staff

CaliCare: California's so-called progressive Democrats, fresh off their classy "flipping off" of Donald Trump at their state convention, now want to flip off the entire state by imposing a reckless, economy-destroying single-payer health care system on the state's citizens. If voters don't stop this madness they'll get what they deserve.

A study by the Senate Appropriations Committee of the state legislature found that a proposed single-payer system would cost $400 billion a year — more than twice the state's current bloated budget of $182 billion. To say that it would be the fiscal and economic ruin of California is an understatement.

As the Sacramento Bee notes, half the tab would come in the form of a new tax of about 15% on all earned income. That's in addition to the 13%-plus state income tax already levied on Californians. That would still leave as much as $100 billion in new spending that would have to be paid for somehow. No doubt, they'll go after businesses for that.

I am sure Jerry Brown can convince Mexico to pick up the tab.

Secession would be nice. Let Hollywood pay for their largess.

California already has a program called Medi-Cal, the state version of their Medicaid assistance plan. It is something of a bureaucratic nightmare to obtain services already, and it only promises to be much worse if expanded to the degree these rather singularly ungifted “lawmakers” in the California assembly are calling for.

Besides which, California is already dead broke, with no prospect for a recovery plan.

I live in California. If this passes within seconds (as millions others should) of something like this passing (or sooner) I would list my home and as soon as I could sell it get out of Dodge. The question then is who will purchase it. Either some foreign entity or a very wealthy liberal.

The only bullet they’ll use is one to the head when they see 80 percent of their check going to income taxes.

Figure 43 at the fed level, 28 at state, don’t know if some cities have taxes, SS and SSDI...

They should live fine. They won’t be able to eat but they should live fine.

They need to do it now.

A California bankruptcy would be an excellent learning experience for the rest of the country.

No, it wouldn't.

We would be treated to a repeat of the '08 banking disaster with breathless, panicked cries for a bailout....otherwise the nation's economy will tank and WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!....causing 2/3 of linguini-spined Republicans in Congress to vote yea.

I was really hoping Vermont would be the single-payer guinea pig. We could absorb the failure of a state of 600,000 as the price of the lesson.

The income earners will leave and that will end the Cali economy.

I don't spend 15% of my earnings on health care now.

Not living in CA myself I would like to see them try this so we can all see how it works out.

They have to pay for the Illegal Aliens, who would enjoy the ‘free’ health care, but don’t pay taxes.

I don’t.
I don’t want to see liberal Californians spreading their rot all across the country, as they flee their ‘paradise.’

There would be leaflets passed out all over Mexico and Central America:

"Come to California--free health care for everyone."

The system would crash and burn fast!

When the existing health care professionals flee the state because remuneration was reduced to help pay, there will be no health care at all

Physicians will be imported from the University of Gambia, and nurses from Lagos
