‘Potential Apocalypse’: NYT Warns Of Global Warming Floods Of Biblical Proportions

The New York Times has taken warnings about global warming to a whole new level, publishing a three-part series suggesting a “potential apocalypse” from melting ice sheets if humans keep pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

“If that ice sheet were to disintegrate, it could raise the level of the sea by more than 160 feet — a potential apocalypse, depending on exactly how fast it happened,” NYT reporter Justin Gillis wrote of what some scientists predict could happen to Antarctica.

Gillis points to recent research suggesting “the collapse of the ice sheet will become inevitable,” likening the projected 160-foot sea-level rise to flood stories from the Epic of Gilgamesh to the Bible’s Old Testament.

“In the Epic of Gilgamesh, waters so overwhelm the mortals that the gods grow frightened, too,” Gillis wrote, “In India’s version, Lord Vishnu warns a man to take refuge in a boat, carrying seeds. In the Bible, God orders Noah to carry two of every living creature on his ark.”

“I don’t think the biblical deluge is just a fairy tale,” Terence Hughes, a retired glaciologist told Gillis. “I think some kind of major flood happened all over the world, and it left an indelible imprint on the collective memory of mankind that got preserved in these stories.”

The constant drip, drip drip, from the wacko left to pad their pocketbooks at any cost, truth be damned. Nat. Geog. has tried it too. .

So lets use a little physics here. If one fills a glass with ice then fills the remaining space with water and let it all melt what happens? Does the glass overflow a volume of 1/4 the glass? No. I would say that the glass doesn’t overflow at all because the volume of ice is greater than the volume of water. Put a bottle of beer in the freezer - it breaks because the frozen beer (actually the water in the beer) has a greater volume than the bottle can contain.

Now we extrapolate this to the poles. Most of the ice is floating in the sea. The sea has a volume of 1.332 billion cubic kilometers (courtesy of Google). The ice caps and other frozen stuff have a volume of 24 million cubic kilometers (again from Google search). Ice has a volume of 9% more than water - so 91% of 24 million is 21.8 million cubic kilometers which is .018% the volume of the entire oceans - call it 2%. So if all the ice in the entire globe melted the sea level could conceivably rise 2% - not accounting for water vapor contained in the air.

If it wasn’t for global warming, Chicago would still be under a mile of ice.

I get to NYC pretty regularly and when I go I always make it a point to visit Central Park.Don't know how familiar you are with the Park but it's mainly rolling landscape with open grassy areas and is dotted by strange (strange to *me* at least) rocky outcrops.

Well,a few years ago I saw a documentary on the Science Channel which specifically mentioned Central Park and the outcrops. They said that the outcrops represent irrefutable proof that the Park was once covered by a glacier that was about a thousand feet thick.

Thanks!

I consider 1500 ppm, the level aimed for by most commercial garden/nursery carbon dioxide generators to be optimal, and I don't see why we should settle for anything less than the optimal for God's Green Earth.

Now I'm off to conscientiously enlarge by carbon footprint by turning my compost pile.

Still generating robust amounts of carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor...

For a Greener Planet!

We have seven cars, but average engine displacement is only 3.4 liters. We’ll have to up our game. I see a 392 Scat Pack in my future.

You’ll be better off building a bunker.

And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

The bible is always their last resort. Then they invent a new lie (oceans are next) or change the name of global warming again.
