Todd Rundgren isnt bothered that some of his fans might avoid his concerts due to his politics.
The 68-year-old musician and record producer conceded as much in an interview with Variety when asked about an incident in which a couple walked out of a concert in Los Angeles due to comments he made about President Donald Trump.
No, Rundgren said when asked if it bothered him. If I had the power, Id say: If youre a Trump supporter, dont come to my show, because you wont have a good time. And also, I dont understand your frickin values. Because Im not singing about that. If you dont understand that basic thing, youre just fooling yourself.
The Hello Its Me singer was talking to the magazine to promote his latest album, White Knight, which is filled with collaborations with artists such as Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor and Joe Walsh.
One song on the album, Tin Foil Hat, is a direct jab at Trump, written and performed with Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen. The lyrics reference Trumps now-famous descent down an escalator at Trump Tower to announce his presidential run, and add that Trump tweets like a teenage girl and puts the pluto in plutocrat.'
Rundgren is currently on a cross-country tour, with multiple dates in Florida and Texas, states that Trump won during the 2016 campaign. But the musician told Variety that Trump supporters will likely be offended if they attend his concerts.
Let the buyer beware! I mean, if you cant take a joke, or you cant admit that youve made a mistake, you dont belong with the rest of us, he said with a laugh.

Given the demographics and median age of his fans, he might deeply regret that statement.
Drives me crazy too!

Todd is still peeved that Liv is Steven Tyler’s daughter and not his.
To #15 re Rundgren’s hits.

= #29 - Can We Still Be Friends
End of career, 1978. No more Top 40 hits.
Nah.
He’ll get more lefties to his show.
Trump has done us a great favor in many ways,
and it shows every day.
Well, Todddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.
Don’t sweat it. I’m still waiting for your first good song/album.
Who is Landecker and why should I care? Also, what is this “Boogie Check” thing?
I always thought his muzak sucked, now I can confirm that Todd Runtgren AND his muzak sucks. I am sick of having performers rob me of the time I purchased for entertainment as an opportunity to force their stupid opinion on me. One of these days I will blurt my opinion right back at them
I sort of heard the name before, but couldn’t put my finger on it even though I am a rock fan of groups like the Rolling Stunrs and most of the usual suspects.
So I checked out Wikipedia to find his big hit was “Hello it’s Me” and then I knew why I wasn’t even sure who this guy was. Man, he sucks. And what a horrible song.
Glad he disinvited me, I couldn’t even imagine going to such a sucky concert as his. I guess a lot of folks agree, so now he is trying to build an audience based on bizaare Trump haters instead of music. A lot of ugly women in that crowd of Trump haters. Yuck.
Hey, whoever you are, psss - you have hep C.
Shut up and sing.
Another geezer rocker who thinks we care. Even before this, I wouldn’t have had any use for FREE tickets.
“People should go to the show and ... block the entrance so his fans cant get inside.”
Both of them.
Honestly never heard of him, maybe cause I’m too young but I’m guessing he can’t be that famous.
One would think a has-been like Rundgren would want to keep all the fans he could.
Todd Rundgren’s heyday was a bit before my time, but I’ve gotten to know a couple of his songs over the years (on 70s compilation CDs). I’ve always liked “Can We Still be Friends?”
Apparently the answer is no.
Trying to make a comeback?
I liked Something/Anything back in the 1970’s. The next album I bought of his, I couldn’t stand. Before the 70’s were over, he was over.
