"Trump Effect" Sending Couples to Divorce Court
Washington Examiner ^ | 5-8-17 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 05/08/2017 11:03:12 AM PDT by SJackson

Couples are fighting over President Trump more than ever, and many are turning to divorce court to get out of their politically ravaged marriages.

New data from Wakefield Research found that one in 10 couples, married and not, have ended their relationships in a battle of Trump. For younger millennials, it's 22 percent.

And nearly one in three Americans said that political clashes over Trump have "had a negative impact on their relationship," said the report provided to the Washington Examiner.

"Since Donald Trump's election, political discourse in the U.S. has been more tense and divisive than ever," Wakefield said.

Call it the end of the Carville-Matalin era, when relationships like Clinton adviser James Carville's marriage to Bush family adviser Mary Matalin were celebrated.

"Passionately opposing points of views are not only driving wedges between strangers and even friends, but we are now seeing evidence that this dissent is having a detrimental impact on Americans' marriages and relationships," the report said.

In fact, 24 percent of Americans in a relationship or married and 42 percent of millennials told the survey that "since President Trump was elected, they and their partner have disagreed or argued about politics more than ever."

Two unrelated online dating reports confirmed the rise of political incompatibility. They showed that Democrats are especially unlikely to date a Trump-supporting Republican, but Republicans are more inclined to give Clinton-supporting Democrats a try.

In confirming those reports, Wakefield found that even Americans not in relationships would consider divorce if their partner didn't agree with them on politics.

"Among Americans who did not vote for Trump and who are not in a relationship with a partner who voted for Trump, a third (33 percent) would consider divorce if they had a spouse who voted for Donald Trump. This number jumps to 43 percent among Millennials who did not vote for Trump or have a partner who voted for him," said Wakefield.

Virginia "super lawyer" Grant T. Moher, managing partner of Fairfax-based family law firm Curran Moher Weis, said political divisions have "never" become so bad that divorce was the answer. "But," he told the Examiner, "in the wake of the whole Trump phenomenon, people have gotten to the point of divorce over political divisions."

He cited one potential client, a Muslim who immigrated to the United States a child, who was married to a white American woman for 20 years. Neither was political until Trump hit the scene, and "all of sudden she developed a real affinity for Trump."

Part of that was her questioning her husband's Muslim background. "She was questioning his patriotism. It was a huge rift in their marriage," said Moher.

Moher said the Trump effect is the talk in divorce courts and that it's also driven couples to marriage counseling. "Yes, this is an issue," he said, giving a simple and blunt reason: "You're either with him or against him."

Cops blame 'turnstile justice' for rise in attacks on them

Police are blaming the national movement to decriminalize illegal activities for the sharp increase in attacks on law enforcement, saying that assailants believe they can strike or even shoot a cop and get off with a slap on the wrist.

A new internal FBI report said that police are having more run-ins with convicts released early from jail, the product of "turnstile justice."

The FBI report, provided to the Washington Examiner, said, "Assailants who experience this 'turnstile justice system' know they are going to receive a lighter sentence than they would have in the past and will be released early, if incarcerated at all. This may lead to a belief by the assailant that consequences no longer exist for criminal acts, especially drug offenses."

It's a vicious circle, said the FBI, explaining that drug convicts get out early, return to drug use and eventually have a face-off with police. And it usually doesn't go well.

In interviewing police who've been attacked, the FBI concluded that attackers feel desperate and will shoot to stay out of jail. Cops, the FBI said, feel that their attacker "would not have used deadly force against the officer if the assailant was sober."

White House chef is the 'presidential taster'

It's been a state secret forever, but the former Clinton White House chef has revealed that there really is a "presidential food taster." And it's the executive chef.

The late White House chef Walter Scheib revealed the secret to Adrian Miller, author of the new book In The President's Kitchen Cabinet, shortly before he died in a freak hiking accident in 2015.

"He said, 'Yeah, the chef is the taster. We are the last ones to taste it before it goes out,'" Miller said of his talk with Scheib.

What's more, he said, the White House has an elaborate system to keep food for the first family and even state dinners safe. Primarily, the kitchen works with companies that have undergone background checks.

"Discretion is valued," he said. "If you find somebody bragging about that, you shouldn't trust them," said Miller.

Then there's the Obama-era White House garden, used to supply fresh veggies and berries.

And, he added, "Sometimes the most secure thing for them to do is to just go to the store and shop at the last moment." Don't tell anyone, but one local fave for White House chefs is Whole Foods on P Street.

I'm sure he does. Trump causes cancer too. And auto accidents.

Okay, now I’m beginning to see why Ivanka and Jared were such a bad idea.

This is all coming together for me now.

And yet, after eight years of Bath-House Barry, we didn’t see one article like this concerning the messianic putz.

Yes, a study from FakeField.

If your significant other is full of so much hate for Trump that they cant be with you, consider it a bullet dodged.

I think it is because Republicans are more tolerant. From the article:

“Two unrelated online dating reports confirmed the rise of political incompatibility. They showed that Democrats are especially unlikely to date a Trump-supporting Republican, but Republicans are more inclined to give Clinton-supporting Democrats a try.”

Great line, however..., men and women are unequally yoked from the get go.

It’s the differences (within reason) that cause us to grow.

I think the media and the way they gamed Trump to the public, brought out a lot of latent feelings from inside folks. Folks found thoughts within them awakened, sometime surprising even themselves, and most certainly their spouses.

Exactly. Liberal intolerance is Trump's fault too. And global warming.

Interesting point.

It does fit into my observation that Liberals are some of the most intolerant people known to exist.

Ivanka’s bad idea was denying Christ and converting to the Jewish faith.

Marriage is hard. Being unequally yoked spiritually in a marriage is prohibited by scripture. Being unequally yoked politically in marriage is unwise and, I imagine, brutal.
