LIVE STREAM: The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, is expected to be grilled Wednesday by lawmakers in both parties who have sharply questioned his judgment on the investigations into both Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and Russian meddling in the presidential election. Unlike the House Intelligence Committee hearing in March in which Mr. Comey took the extraordinary step of confirming the existence of the Russia investigation, Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee proceeding is a more routine congressional oversight hearing — but notable because Mr. Comey has not publicly discussed his role in the Clinton investigation.

Mr. Comey’s handling of that Clinton investigation continues to shadow him. Not even President Trump seems keen to forget the decisions Mr. Comey made during the election. On Tuesday night, the president criticized Mr. Comey in a Twitter post, writing that the F.B.I. director was “the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!”

Mr. Trump also played down the F.B.I.’s investigation into Russian efforts to help his campaign.

“...Criminal prosecutions not done by Congressional Committees...”

Thanks for clarifying - I did realize this but was assuming that it was congress that would recommend prosecution but maybe it is the DOJ? Not sure how it works but I am sure that it should not have been solely up the FBI alone to decide that there was no intent!!!

The very existence of the classified e mails on the Weiner server ought to be enough negligence to make it criminal regardless of some FBI “approved” concept of intent.

This will be outrageous if not followed up on.

It is Andrew McCarthy’s analysis. I respect his legal opinions as being the gold standard.

Hillary Clinton emails containing classified information were forwarded to former congressman Anthony Weiner, the director of the FBI testified Wednesday as he defended his handling of politically sensitive probes surrounding the last year’s presidential race.

Under questioning from the senior Democrat on the committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), James B. Comey revealed more details about how Clinton’ s emails ended up on the computer of former congressman Anthony Weiner.

Weiner , a New York Democrat, was married to a top aide to Clinton, Huma Abedin. Weiner was being investigated separately for possible inappropriate communications with a minor.

“Somehow, her emails were being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information,’’ Comey said. The director defended his decision to notify Congress that he had re-opened the Clinton email probe just days before the election, saying he was forced to choose between saying something or concealing what he knew, or as he put it, “between really bad and catastrophic.’’

He added: “It makes me mildly nauseous to think we might have had some impact on the election.”

Comey said they were new emails. What was most interesting so far was the interchange between Grassley and Comey. Grassely obviously has some new information, which is why he got Comey on the record re the leaks. Also, there appears to be an email within the DOJ indicating that Lynch would not to too far on the Clinton investigation, i.e., the fix was in.
Grassley may be laying the foundation for another agency to investigate the top leadership at the FBI. Comey acknowledged that it has been done before.

****
George Webb had encouraged people to send his into to Grassley. Thought I read about these new emails recently, but could not find where I read it. The links below are from a search.

Probably. I don't know what was said in the statement before the election. What I found amazing was that they were able to go thru all the material in record time to then give Hillary a pass.

Grahamnasty did ask the question, "Is someone being prosecuted for the classified information on Weiner's laptop."

In essence, in order to give Mrs. Clinton a pass, the FBI rewrote the statute, inserting an intent element that Congress did not require.

So, if I rob a bank - BUT MY INTENT is to give the money to starving children in North Korea it's NOT A CRIME? And who could see into my heart to see if the excuse was true?

This crap isn't 'law' it's ignorant witchcraft...

One thing throughout, the RAT aides behind their senators are alarmed and defensive, our aides behind our guys are spirited and semi-smiling. Or were.

-- I did realize this but was assuming that it was congress that would recommend prosecution but maybe it is the DOJ? --

All violations of federal law are prosecuted by the executive branch. Basic separation of powers, Congress gets to write the laws, but not indict or prosecute; and the prosecutor can't declare guilt without a court.

The issue of intent is particularly interesting in this case, because a violation of this law does not require intent. Comey "added" that out of thin air, then uses it to justify the erroneous conclusion.

The fact of the matter is, some people are "too big to be criminals," and get a pass. The law is NOT even handed, not at all. Never is. Insiders ALWAYS get favorable treatment, and this is just as true when your relatives are in the local justice system. The system takes care of its own. Hillary is in the protected class. Simple as that.

Thanks for the links. There definitely was DOJ influence helping to limit the damage to Hillary and her aides. The immunities granted and the fact that Mills was allowed to sit in on the questioning of Hilllary are just a few examples. The fix was in and Lynch and Comey were part of it.

Yes, but each Member of Congress can be turned by public outcry and by prosecutions.

It’s still very early in the game for the Trump Team.

-- Thing is it was left to the FBI's discretion by Lynch once she was outed meeting with Bill on the tarmac. --

That's the cover story, and Comey is the fall guy. Simpler would be Lynch recuses, but then the fall guy would not be readily identifiable to the public, and that element was necessary to keep Hillary afloat as a candidate, and I'm sure the PTB thought, as president too.

Of course I know that the dems are doing exactly that. I probably wasn’t clear enough. My comment was about the fact that the repubs are no different. They are also deep in the swamp of lobbyist and moneyed shadow figures behind the lobbyist. Nothing that anyone in congress relates to the truth regardless of party. They are all the same and running the country is not on their agenda. Their sole purpose, R & D, is to keep their own seat of power.

Well they can if you are just one of the masses of fools who believe in justice (ya know, the little people) — however you are right about our well connected betters like Hillary; there is a different standard for them.

Sasse question to Comey about Russian hacking, "Do you think we will see more hacking in the 2018 elections?" Comey, "Yes, the Russians see that it works."

I am sure this is going to be trumpeted by the MSM and the Dems. I guess Comey means by "it works," is that it helped Trump to defeat Hillary. Comey is a loose cannon.

Thanks for the ping. His last several video reports have been astounding. He’s really letting out that he knows so much more than practically anyone else investigating. He’s on a roll and he’s putting his life in danger.

When this is all over George should be picked up under Rudy G. in the Trump Admin. He worked before for Rudy while in NYC. His son is a med school student at Columbia.

I just hope he stays alive because he’s getting close and he’s venturing into dangerous geographical areas. He’s also talking about going to Pakistan.

Nothing surprising here. The Uniparty runs the country, which is why Trump is having so much difficulty implementing his agenda.
