General Motors auto plant in Venezuela seized by government, GM decries illegality
Daily Sabah ^ | April 19, 2017

General Motors said on Wednesday that Venezuelan authorities had illegally seized its plant in the industrial hub of Valencia and vowed to "take all legal actions" to defend its rights.

The seizure comes amid a deepening economic crisis in leftist-led Venezuela that has already roiled many U.S. companies.

"Yesterday, GMV's (General Motors Venezolana) plant was unexpectedly taken by the public authorities, preventing normal operations. In addition, other assets of the company, such as vehicles, have been illegally taken from its facilities," the company said in a statement.

It said the seizure would cause irreparable damage to the company, its 2,678 workers, its 79 dealers and to its suppliers.

Venezuela's Information Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for information.

A US globalist corporation gets burned by offshoring to the third world. Film at 11:00. LOL.

PS: Dear globalist corporations with factories in Mexico. Mexico is way overdue for a socialist/communists revolution. Kiss your assets goodbye!

Couldn’t of happened to a better company. They ripped off their bond holders. Built a plant in a communist country, presumably for cheap labor.

IIRC, that was part of the scenario preambling the events of the movie Red Dawn.

I wonder if the Venezuelan Gov. is going to use the same book to mfg. cars that they used to produce oil like they did when they kicked out all the oil companies?

Socialism will throw this by the boards when it has run out of game.

With all the emotional knee-jerking and the absence of facts, I sometimes think I have accidentally wandered onto a leftist site. . .

The risk GM took to go into a Socialist Mecca to save a few bucks on cheaper employment. Democrats thought it was a good idea at the time.

Yes, President Trump is going to be parachuted into Venezuela to lead the charge up to GM. Everything is a plot and a conspiracy theory.

Yes, the guys who approved the plant right after World War II were a bunch of idiots for not seeing more than 70 years in the future. /s

Perhaps. But any responsible management should have taken note of the change in wind direction a long time ago, and acted accordingly.

Well, didn’t they go face down backside up for Obama when they became Government Motors?
Funny, they took readily to government control before.

That plant was built long ago. It made perfect sense at that time - South Americans buy automobiles, too.

Dunno ‘bout MBAs, but I know that a lot of economists are bat-s#!+ crazy. Had one tell me that deficit spending could be sustained indefinitely with the right tax policies.

GM is going to take all legal means to protect itself? It would be better off blowing up its factories and funding and arming the opposition.

GM will ‘vigorously’ take all available legal actions regarding seizure of assets in Venezuela—WSJ

It will be a line item in next year's tax return, i.e. "loss from Venezuelan operations."
