Meet Dr. Jumana Nagarwala of Livonia, Michigan who was arrested on Wednesday and charged by the DOJ of performing female genital mutilation on girls “who were approximately 6 to 8 years old.”

Seven days later, an FBI child forensic interviewer talked to one of the girls, who said she was brought to Detroit with a second girl for a “special girls’ trip,” according to the FBI.
After arriving in Farmington Hills, the girls were taken to a doctor because “their tummies hurt.”
“While at the doctor’s office, a procedure ‘to get the germs out,’” was performed on the first girl, according to the criminal complaint. The girl was shown a photo of Nagarwala and said she was the doctor who performed the procedure, according to the FBI.
The girl told the FBI that Nagarwala “pinched” her on the “place (where) she goes pee,’” the government alleges.
“(The girl) said that she was told not to talk about the procedure,” FBI Special Agent Kevin Swanson wrote in the complaint.
A subsequent medical examination showed that the girl’s genitals did not appear normal and a section had been altered or removed, according to the court filing.
Why not arrest the parents?

The DOJ announced that, “[t]his is believed to be the first case brought under 18 U.S.C. 116, which criminalizes FGM.”

but it gets shipwrecked (or at least, caught on a reef) because it implies that on a child such mutilation is not really wrong, just premature ---- and you can get around it by simply changing the age of consent. Keep in min that many Muslim women say that in their case even bondage and battery are voluntary.
I would argue that some acts are objectively wrong, Umm Bint-Anybody, it's reckless endangerment maybe, assault for sure.
The medical profession has to have some enforceable ethical standards, including that they do not intentionally mutilate patients.
There are some things you shouldn't legally be able to consent to at any age. Among these: genital mutilation, (forcible) rape, slavery, sodomy, torture, assault, murder.
I have never heard of any Christian or Jew doing this. I’m not surprised, though, that Human Rights Watch would give the Muslims cover.
