Amid rising complaints that his aides are saying different things about Syria and that his policy is confusing, President Trump emphatically cleared the air Tuesday.
“We’re not going into Syria,” he told me in an exclusive interview. “Our policy is the same, it hasn’t changed. We’re not going into Syria.”
The president, speaking by phone, called Syrian president Bashar al-Assad a “butcher” and a “barbarian” for using sarin gas on his own people, but said last week’s successful missile strike on an air base there was not the start of a campaign to oust the dictator.
“Our big mission is getting rid of ISIS,” Trump said. “That’s where it’s always been. But when you see kids choking to death, you watch their lungs burning out, we had to hit him and hit him hard.”

I agree with Trump about staying out of the Shiite-Sunni conflict. But if he and the surrounding Sunni states could coalition together and form safe zones inside Syria, I would not be opposed to USA participating actively.

It instantly generates fear and respect for the authority. When the dust settles and no more firings are happening, those that remain are grateful and become loyal.
So, when a fledgling SuperPower loses its grip after 8 years of Obama, the new boss takes charge by kicking ass and taking names. Instant respect from the masses, even those that didn’t like him.
It now makes fighting the real enemies much easier.

They can’t or won’t do that. Once one understands that ISIS/Syrian rebel/white helmet/etc memberships are totally fungible, that someone who is ISIS one day can wear a different costume on another day, and that they collectively serve a deep state purpose of color revolution, achieving anything meaningful and lasting against them isn’t likely to happen. The only ones likely to hit ISIS hard are the Russians, because they correctly lump most (or all) of the terrorist rebels together. We on the other hand want the rebels armed by the West and the Saudis left alone.
