Carnival Corporation’s Holland America line runs eight different cruises that stop in Mexican locations, but it has now scrapped Acapulco from its itineraries for both 2017 and 2018 due to rising security fears.

Holland America released a statement Wednesday which read, “Due to recent security concerns, Holland America Line has replaced calls at Acapulco, Mexico, with alternative Mexican ports on eight scheduled 2017/2018 cruises.

cis the only major resort I have ot visited.

That is b/c it is has the reputation as the Honolulu of Mexico - overdeveloped, overcrowded and just *yech*.

I am not surprised the3 Mexican government, which spends 90% of all its resources protecting its money-generating resorts, has ceded Acapulco to the narco gangs.

Acapulco is not a huge Mexican city however it does have the very highest per capita murder rate of any city in Mexico.

They should cancel any and all cruises to Mexico.

At our border in Juarez, 200 dead already this year from drug violence. http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/local/juarez/2017/03/31/meth-blamed-jurez-violence-200-dead-year/99847962/

A judge needs to come out and force it back in. This cruise company is racist.

There is a price to be paid to being part of a country at ACTIVELY works to subvert American attempts to control its borders and keep no-goods out of its country. Acapulco, crime ridden or not can screw itself.

Wife and I liked Ixtapa back in the 70s and 80s. A handfull of hotels plus a tiny shopping area.
Today, more than a dozen hotels and a massive shopping area.

I agree. MEXICO is not a country that respects our sovereignty. Indeed, they allow its President and bureaucracy to subvert and deter every move we attempt to correct that highly lop sided balance.

The last time I did any extensive checking, Mexico got nearly one quarter of their plus dollars from US illegal Mexican remittances from the US. WE get their damned welfare problems and their government gets the money.

Never once did they ever examine why all that Castilian-like aristocracy got the benefits of ignoring their peons, pure native-mexicans and other mestizos that are a burden to them in-country, but a boon from without.

Cabo San Lucas used to be clean and safe, but, safe no more. I believe three headless bodies were found there last month. I’ve gone on ten cruises to Mexico and I will not go back due to safety concerns.

We traveled to Puerto Vallarta in the mis 80’s with my youngest son and his friend. We felt pretty safe but I prayed that none of us would require any kind of medical care. It was not the cleanest place i’ve been to. A few years ago, we went on a Mexican cruise and were told to not leave the main street in PV and travel in groups. That was the end to any future travel to Mexico.

My fellow 1%ers: Does this mean I should not consider moving there(Puerto Vallerta) during football season? I’ll just hang out at the bars downtown. All I need will be cable tv and a fast internet connection. Thanks.

Interesting, we visited one of the Mexican destinations on a cruise to the western Caribbean a few years ago a few years after Wilma. During a taxi ride we had a discussion about the damage and the taxi driver was quick to point out the only real help they got came from the US, not Mexico. I thought that was surprising given it was a well known port call. The driver seemed to be telling the truth, not playing up to us as tourists.

I don't know how old you are, but I remember the TV
game show's of the 70's and 80's (i.e. "The Price is Right")
when one of the big prizes might be a "fabulous"
vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or Acapulco, Mexico!
"Come On Down!"

The only place I will still go to in Mexico is Cozumel. If you are not a tourists or a local you are not getting on the island.
