Finally President Trump Calls Out #NeverTrump Members of Congress…

After removing Katie Walsh from the White House staff, President Trump now moves to confront the #NeverTrump coalition in congress, Hillary’s Favorite Caucus, head on.

More than half of the remaining members of the House Freedom Caucus are still #NeverTrump, entrenched and intransigent Pro-Ted Cruz ideologues. They oppose Trump and have never moved beyond losing in the primary. They are still fighting the 2016 primary race they lost.

It appears President Trump has had enough of their ideological gridlock.

I’m sure Jordan was not a Trump supporter about April of last year when it was clear Trump had pretty well locked up the nomination.

I don’t know about the others, but I recently read that Jordan didn’t say anything until about July. I’m not sure he ever endorsed Trump. But I don’t really know.

This is the very same fight of the 2016 primaries.

The Conservative Orthodoxy led by Ted Cruz vs the political pragmatists led by Donald Trump.

The first piece of legislation was far from perfect, obviously. But, it was an attempt at a start.

So now what have we got? Obamacare continues.

Not certain if the FC was frozen out of any process or refused to participate on their own.

Republicans, on the whole, are completely out of excuses in terminating Obamacare. This party controls all three branches. No more “We don't control the Senate” or “Obama will just veto any bill”, not even mentioning that the Republican House controlled the purse strings for years and didn't do a thing to successfully defund this crap.

I truly don't care about ideological purity on this subject. All I see is many everyday citizens being hurt, while our supposed party continues to stall. Instead, the diversion is some absurd Russian hacking story (notice how many Republicans are participating in this nonsense?)

Obamacare has been a great campaign issue. Maybe that's all it ever was to Republicans. Given the current course, it won't even be that any longer.

If Obamacare remains the law, why would Republicans act on Illegal Immigration, Dodd/Frank, meaningful Tax Reform or Deficit Reduction? After all, these were also campaign promises.

The bureaucracy seems to still be calling the shots. It's now up to President Trump to do what he does best; Go directly to the American People in televised speeches. If he can sway the public, the historically spineless Republican party will act.

It is not “his legislation.” It is the legislation Ryan is submitting to the House for a vote. Ryan was unanimously voted to be the House Freedom Caucus representative to the world.

Trump is working with the army he has and not he army he wants.

You do the best you can, with what you have, where you are.

Ohio’s congressional districts are not based on cluster mathematical models. They go every which way like crazy.

It would not hurt republicans, but it would devastate democrats, if mathematical population maps determined congressional districts. It would especially hurt African American representation.

That is why I think a congressional district should be no more than 100,000 people. The nation should have about 3000 CDs, in my opinion. 700 to 800 thousand is ridiculous.

Repeal of ACA was a central promise of the Trump campaign.

I was #NeverTrump. Now I'm grateful for his Presidency as God's will. But as I see it Trump got elected on:

1. Supreme Court Appointments (HFC will unequivocally support, way too soon for me to tell if Gorsuch will be the next Scalia or the next Roberts.)
2. Controling the boarders [THE WALL - build it already] (HRC will support, no excuse if construction does not begin soon)
3. Repealing Obamacare - Win or lose, the blame game will not absolve the the big guy when people are further enraged by increasing premiums.

But they love Trump’s position on most of the issues.

I expect to lose the health care issue. I just do.

They voted in the Senate to defund Planned Parenthood. They had to bring one senator out of the hospital to vote for it. Collins and Snowe, I believe, voted against it, and Pence had to break the tie. This was a vote to have a vote or something like that, but I’m fairly certain that Murkowski said she’d vote against it, too.

So, we will lose defunding PP because of 3 senators.

We will lose a straight repeal of ObamaCare for the same reason: Murkowski, Snowe, Collins, Capita, and Portman won’t support because of PP and because of Medicaid grants to states.

It’s just a fact of life.

So, do we compromise to get rid of ObamaCare with something that’s not close to what we want but does end the taxes and mandates, or do we keep ObamaCare?

I think it’s a no-brainer, but I’m ok with half a sandwich instead of ZERO sandwich at all.

Yes, you are correct. Too bad some people here will just emote about Trumps “failure” to get the obamacare noose off of our necks in his first two months in office. And I didn’t read that tweet properly the first time I saw it because I thought it was directly referencing Ryan-care - but it is actually about the ENTIRE REPUBLICAN AGENDA. So, that is important to note.

Yes, there are definitely never-trumpers still simmering and plotting. Do I think most of them are in HFC? No, they are everywhere. Do I think Trump wants a version of obamacare because he loves Big Government controlling your health care/insurance options? No, I think he actually has compassion for those who have pre-existing conditions and young people who are still at home because the jobs picture has been so awful. They should have a device in whatever legislation they come up with to step that adult child coverage age back to something like 22 yo.once the employment situation begins to improve, which should be rapid. One has to look at the MANY charitable things that Trump has done under the radar to see that he does have compassion, which is very different that nearly all elected officials in DC.
And yes, I feel that Ryan tried to set Trump up, and instead it got hung around Ryans neck. GOOD. But it did hurt Trump by way of optics and messaging. As can be seen on this very forum.

The repeal is sitting in a committee in the House somewhere, and it won't be allowed to the floor.

Of course, if it was sent to the floor, it would fail miserably.

But, hey, let's not let that incontrovertible fact get in the way of unrealistic fantasies.

A straight up Obamacare repeal will never pass the House. Those who point to such measures having been passed under the previous administration should look up the meaning of the word "disingenuous", and also the term "window dressing".

And they should take up their gripes with those members of Congress who voted Obamacare repeal then, but absolutely refuse to do so now.

Meanwhile, the grownups will seek the passage of something that at least begins to attack the problem.

I wonder: what will all the bleaters say when the HFC eventually votes "yes" on a bill that is still unacceptable to the absolutists?

Or alternately: what they will say when the 2018 midterms are approaching and still nothing has been done about Obamacare?

I guess the House falling into Democrat hands—putting a complete halt to the entire Trump agenda—is a small price to pay for "nobly" standing on "principle".

I did put heavy sarcasm in parenthesis. One would think a bunch calling themselves 'conservative' and 'Freedom blah blah' after all these years would have at the ready legislation to produce what it is they claim they seek. They have had since November 2016 to be ready to introduce something... But, noooo, Lying Ryan was not prepared either, and slipped off into his 'secret' chamber and cobbled up a bunch of words, he knew full well would not go anywhere.

Take away the names “Obamacare” and “Government Healthcare” and the vast majority of Americans support government run healthcare.

At the very least they support all the provisions that only government run healthcare can deliver.

We on Free Republic are most certainly a narrow minority.

Government run healthcare is our future. I wish we could change that, but it does not at all look promising.
