WASHINGTON — President Trump, the author of “The Art of the Deal,” has been projecting his usual bravado in public this week about the prospects of repealing the Affordable Care Act. Privately he is grappling with rare bouts of self-doubt.

Mr. Trump has told four people close to him that he regrets going along with Speaker Paul D. Ryan’s plan to push a health care overhaul before unveiling a tax cut proposal more politically palatable to Republicans.

He said ruefully this week that he should have done tax reform first when it became clear that the quick-hit health care victory he had hoped for was not going to materialize on Thursday, the seventh anniversary of the act’s passage, when the legislation was scheduled for a vote

Yes, this lies squarely on Ryan’s shoulders. With a neophyte Trump not really understanding all of this and what was going to happen.

Now Pence is clearly trying to distance himself from it even though he is buddies with Ryan. That should tell you something. I personally believe he is bidding his time.

Not sure I believe Kushner was against it but it’s possible.

#14 Yeah...according to the NYT, Trump is already the defeated, introspective leader, not unlike Hitler in the bunker. Gotta be true. The NYT is credible. "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers." Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

“...ruefully...rare bouts of self doubt...”

The New York Times is editorializing and passing it off as fake news.

How in God’s name would the New York Times’ spinners ever know President Trump’s mindset well enough to insert their nasty negative spin adjectives into this opinion article?

Fake news.

The Freedom Caucus has gotten some meaningful concessions from the Pres. They gotta remember Trump won the election because he broke The Great Blue Wall. Like Reagan used to say if you can agree on 75 percent of something with another Republican do it.

He said in his press conference that he would make some mistakes, and he has. At least he recognizes that.

To a degree that’s exactly what the President wants. Even if the news report is spot on, Trump believers will now doubt everything as fake news.

JOSH KUSHNER’S HEALTH-INSURANCE START-UP IS STILL BLEEDING MONEY

"Obamacare repeal is going to take several attempts"

No, no, no.

Get w/ the program. Obamacare must be eradicated root and branch. Got it?

If not we'll set ourselves on fire.

As long as he has the ability to recognize this is a mistake.

I hope this article IS true.

It will help him going forward

And bashing his daughter? No class.

When she takes an office and staff in the WH she's part of the government, and fair game.

she sure is..and the fact that people here are giving her a pass on hiring Jaime Gorelick is frightening.

Before 2017, I don’t think there is a single person on this site that would think Gorelick should be let anywhere near the WH.

do you think will pay for the slaughter victims in Chicago and other hellholes? Do you know who’s paying for them now? YOU are.

Chicago’s gang bangers shooting each other require medical care... a short visit to an Emergency Room runs hundreds of thousands of dollars ... Government is involved in those decisions now... they’re taking money out of your pocket now.

The reason ‘healthcare’ discussions are so difficult is THE PUBLIC DOESN’T HAVE ALL THE FACTS.

I suggest we pass the horror in front of us WITH THE CAVEAT THAT IN 18 MONTHS THE BILL WILL BE REVISITED AND REVISED. The American people will have a chance to weigh in on the choices... BASED ON EXPERIENCE. During that 18 months citizens can demand ‘the numbers’ on what we’re paying for WHAT WE’RE GETTING. And the hidden costs. The real numbers...

How much does the Government PAY INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR ‘ADVANTAGE’ SENIORS. WOULD YOU BE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT IT’S OVER $80,000 A YEAR PER PERSON?

Well..there is that side of it, I guess.

I just get sick of so many people claiming everything is fake news.

This story is actually a good one and I hope it is true. I WANT Trump to realize this was a mistake and adjust.

Just like I hope this one is true that Bannon recognizes Ryan for what he is
