WASHINGTON President Trump, the author of The Art of the Deal, has been projecting his usual bravado in public this week about the prospects of repealing the Affordable Care Act. Privately he is grappling with rare bouts of self-doubt.
Mr. Trump has told four people close to him that he regrets going along with Speaker Paul D. Ryans plan to push a health care overhaul before unveiling a tax cut proposal more politically palatable to Republicans.
He said ruefully this week that he should have done tax reform first when it became clear that the quick-hit health care victory he had hoped for was not going to materialize on Thursday, the seventh anniversary of the acts passage, when the legislation was scheduled for a vote

Fake News....The media doesn’t know any of this cr**. They just make it up based on a couple words out of context.
I think you are screwing up by believing what the NY Times is reporting here.
And we are suppose to believe that 4 ppl close to Trump ran to the NYT to tell them this? Talk about FAKE NEWS.
The health care bill is not over, the vote has not even occurred. Coming from the New York Times, I would not be surprised if more than half of this is fiction.
I was one of them :)
I try to keep a low profile around here.

How can you say this...It’s from the NYTs! ;-)
And you know this how Maggie you shameless piece of shit? Who told you any of this? No one you made it up. You are a Wikileaks exposed Democrat media operative and nothing more. Go sit in the corner with Charles Blow.
ANYBODY KNOW WHAT TIME THEY’RE VOTING OR DOING WHATEVER THEY’RE DOING TODAY? THANKS
One of the things the Freedom Caucus is going to have to reconcile is that Obamacare repeal is going to take several attempts. It is going to have to die a death of a thousand cuts. Trying to do it all at one time, given the ideological makeup of the GOP house and Senate, is going to require several bills over many years to undo the damage.
Buying into fake news again? Not very smart.
Part of the “art of the deal” is to walk away (which Trump did in NYC) in the Penn Station deal, I think, after other side has invested tons & stands to lose all.
As for Ivanka, please. I haven’t heard one complaint from my sources about “undue influence”.
People like Trump don’t have doubts about their plans. They just have probability.
Wishful thinking on the slime’s part.
Gotta be true. The NYT is credible.
Self-doubt.......NOT. Trump has the megaphone. He speaks very loud and a whole lot of people listen. Trump is in a win-win situation.
There are plenty of people here that have pointed out the same things being said by the NYT
He screwed up...
OF course, maybe NYT is lying about Pence and Kushner saying it was a bad idea..because Pence is close to Ryan.
“Staff members agreed on a hasty rollout strategy during weekend meetings earlier this month with Mr. Pence suggesting that the president maintain distance from the proposal, urging him to refer to the bill as Mr. Ryans creation, according to senior Republicans.”
Pence is clearly trying to distance himself from this disaster that many of you here keep trying to support.
Seems to me, Kellyanne, Reince, Mulvaney, etc., were dispatched to Capitol Hill to wrangle votes.
The troops had more urgent places to be than to talk with the NYT.
NYT is projecting what is happening in their own board rooms and news rooms.
Let it fail...move on to the stuff we understand: tax reform, the Wall, ‘immigration’ and infrastructure.
Then when we have the time to DO IT RIGHT take on ‘health care’...
Or
Pass this poorly thought out bill WITH THE AGREEMENT IT WILL BE REVISITED AND REVISED IN 18 MONTHS.
He’s not battling with self-doubts...he’s battling with the enormity of the swamp...
He never realized it’s depth nor width and how it’s leeched through the ground to contaminate so much of the soil of Washington...
