As the Senate Judiciary Committee was hearing from witnesses for and against Judge Neil Gorsuch, his Supreme Court nomination was delivered a critical blow: Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he would join with other Democrats in filibustering Gorsuch — a move that would require at least 60 senators to vote to end debate on the nomination.
I do not think that is an issue. Keeping the filibuster in place for SCOTUS only hurts republicans. If the Rats had a rat President and 51 seats, they would nuke the filibuster for SCOTUS picks in a heartbeat. Harry Reid said as much back when he thought Crooked Hillary had it in the bag.

I’m not sure it’s stupid. Schumer’s base is demanding they do “something.” He can’t go back to them having left a card on the table.
Having said that, it probably won’t hold because Dems like Manchin (who have an entirely different base) won’t go along.
And ultimately, I don’t think Schumer is that afraid of losing the filibuster, because if he’s ever majority leader, it will be by a vote or two.

Who knows? I am not happy about some of his statements on “undocumented immigrants.” But if he is not confirmed, it would be a devastating defeat for Trump. Couple this with the GOP’s failure to reach a consensus on the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, you have effectively killed the Trump presidency in its infancy. This may have been the plan all along by the GOPe and the so-called conservatives.
Trump should tell them to go f*ck themselves and not help them in anyway with their agenda. And let Obamacare stay in place and nominate a moderate judge to the Supreme Court. Trump should declare war on the Uniparty.

The nuclear option has not been used in confirming a Supreme Court Justice.
It was used by Reid in confirming several lower court judges.
The Constitution treats the Supreme Court different than lower courts.
Using the nuclear option on a Supreme Court Justice is unprecedented.
McConnell is on record more than once stating Gorsuch will be confirmed. If Schumer filibusters, McConnell has no choice but to use the nuclear option if he is going to keep his word. Of course, McConnell has very little credibility.
I have said for weeks now that the way to defeat the democrats is for President Trump to play extreme hardball with them. There are a number of cases where the President can prosecute high-level democrats including Timothy Geithner and other household names, to make the democrat party back down to allow the President’s agenda to move forward.
I can see no other way for President Trump to survive unless he prosecutes with extreme prejudice and thereby dominates the news cycle with unending releases of dirt on the democrats and the republicans they control. President Trump can turn the public against Congress with such force that many members will run from cameras and vote in a manner their constituents demand.
Consider how fast justices were confirmed after 9-11 when GW Bush was President and he did not have a GOP Senate. Alito and Roberts flew through the confirmation process. The reason is the democrats were afraid to obstruct in the memory of such a terrorist attack.
The same principle applies with respect to extreme prosecution. When the facts come out, the democrats will object, will cry witch hunt, but they will back down when the public learns of the severity of their corruption.
Gorsuch is squeaky clean. His confirmation should have been over by now and it should have been near unanimous. For him to be filibustered is nearly an act of sedition.
If the filibuster is to be abandoned in the US Senate, a constitutional amendment in the hands of the states is making progress to restore powers to the states to have a heavy hand over its US Senators. When that cycle completes, the abandonment of the filibuster will have little impact.
The filibuster was originally a gentlemen’s agreement of polity in the days of the nation’s founding. It also existed in the House but as the House grew in number, it was abandoned there. When the states were foced back from choosing their US Senators by ratification of the 17th Amendment, it was understood that the Senate filibuster would serve to preserve the special role of the Senate.

Notice when the conservative SCOTUS appointees go through the lieberal flames and fires and still get appointed? Scalia, Thomas, Alito and hopefully Gorsuch. They remain true to conservative principles.

But I understand your point. When the left vehemently objects to a justice confirmation, it’s an indication that the appointee is a steadfast conservative.
Conversely, when appointees sail through the confirmation process, conservatives should be worried.
