Members of the intelligence community collected ‘incidental’ communications of the Trump transition team during legal surveillance operations, producing ‘dozens’ of reports which eventually unmasked several individuals’ identities and which were ‘widely disseminated,’ a top lawmaker said Wednesday afternoon. House Intelligence Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said none of the reports he had read mentioned Russia or Russians and he was unsure whether the surveillance occurred at Trump Tower. Nunes also was unsure if then President-elect Trump was captured by the surveillance, which occurred in November, December and January. “I recently confirmed on numerous occasions the intelligence community incidentally collected intelligence,” Nunes said.

Please also note everybody that Rep. Nunes did NOT say the surveillance was legal, per the posted video of his statement. Fox News paraphrased, but inserted the word “legal” in reference to his mention of surveillance. Sorry, Fox, very bad journalism. Nunes himself said that further investigation was needed to determine whether it was legal.
In one of the hearings, there were some probing questions about unintentionally acquired information. The person being grilled said that there is an absolute obligation to not collect such data.

This is the follow up question that the congresswoman from Albany should have asked. If Comey was investigating Trump since July 2016 why did he NOT wiretap his phones? If there was a real concern with Russian connections why didn’t they do their jobs and listen to the conversations?
Here’s the answer Comey can’t give.
There never was an investigation in July. But now that Trump knows they were listening to his calls they need to cover their ass and say there was an investigation. Also since it was released that they had Flynn’s calls the cat is out of the bag. Obama’s policy change to release raw collection data to all intel agencies thinking it will help trip Trump up actually may be what exposes the corrupt intel, DOJ, FBI and Obama admins. Now that the raw data is out there it can be exposed and they are worried. So they have to make up a back story on why the collected Trump phone calls.
He's very competent, and very dishonest. A bad combination.

Susan Rice is going to be on 5 news stations on Sunday explaining that Obama was listening to a Russian video at Trump tower.
Not likely, but it will quickly become another collector's item, just like the entire National Review issue, written by sometimes otherwise sane people, that totally denounced PRESIDENT Trump, and the old Chicago Tribune that declared "Dewey Beats Truman."

I agree. I think “wires” includes a variety of means of surveillance, while “phone” is just ... phone. It does seem that he (and/or his extended entourage/campaign) were surveilled, ultimately by the Obama administration.
