Health Reform: President Trump's visit to Capitol Hill might have been enough to ensure that the House ObamaCare "repeal and replace" bill will get enough votes to pass. If it fails, it will be a disaster for Trump and the GOP. If it passes, it will hardly be a victory.
Trump met with House Republicans in a closed-door session to warn them that failure to pass this bill is not an option. According to some lawmakers, he told anyone thinking of voting no that "I'm going to come after you, but I know I won't have to because I know you'll vote yes."
Nevertheless, some conservatives are still opposed to the bill, and its fate remains uncertain. So the question remains: Is this high-wire act worth it, given what's in the House bill?
As we noted in this space earlier, the original House plan was a marginal improvement on ObamaCare in some parts, but kept the insurance industry mandates and regulations that caused ObamaCare to fail in the first place — minimum benefit rules and "guaranteed issue."
The GOP leadership has tweaked the bill since in an attempt to assuage both moderates and conservatives, but left that core problem intact.

RYNOcare simply strips all the fiscal support and penalties from Obamacare.
Interstate competition and other reforms are not fiscal, but rather statutory issues.
Enlist in the military and get your family on TRICARE. Just keep in mind, every ailment is treated with 800 mg of Motrin. Even better, if you have 90 minutes to spend waiting at the pharmacy, they'll give it to you for free.

I am too old for that. I am a veteran but the VA wants nothing to do with me even if I pay because according to them I am not within their guidelines.
Only the party that specializes in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory could turn a train wreck into a train wreck. It is a pathetic, yet amazing phenomena to watch.
Replacing one train wreck with another is not a solution.

Well said. Obamacare is so complex, and so flawed that it simply cannot be fixed or modified. It was designed this way.
It will do nothing to bring down insurance premiums or increase choice and will continue federal subsidies, albeit at a lower level. People will lose their insurance because costs will continue to go up and fewer people will get enough of a subsidy to afford it, the media will be filled with sob stories, and the Republicans will pay a price in 2018. How can that not qualify as a train wreck?
There’s an old saying that applies here: “There’s never enough time to do it right, but there’s always enough time to do it over.”

Thanks for your attempt to add “facts” to the “spin” from the IBD staff.
Fact: The Reconciliation Bill is not (and can not be) about changing statuary law.
Fact: Since the media knows that tales of conflict and anger boost ratings, the media “omits” reporting that fact.
Fact: Low-information voters like to chase “shiny objects”.
I predict that (unlike Rand Paul) President Trump will ensure a vote is taken. I also think that every so-called “Conservative” who votes to help Nancy Pelosi preserve Obamacare AS IT IS will be primaried out in 2018.
I predict that I will contribute funds to replace so-called “Conservatives” in those primaries.
I am so tired of seeing Congressional “prima-donnas” use loud but futile gestures to signal their “virtue”.
I really don’t understand Trump’s stance on this at all. It’s good that the individual mandate will be gone under this legislation, but the bottom line is it’s still socialized medicine, giving everybody access to healthcare no matter what their preexisting conditions may be. And without the individual mandate and those dollars, costs will skyrocket. The only way health plans will be able to keep going is to charge those that remain in health plans far, far more, in order to help fund the sick who would’ve been otherwise uninsurable.
The bottom line is this appears to be kabuki theater. The hated socialized medicine Obamacare is being repealed and replaced with a more expensive socialized medicine scheme. I just don’t see any way around this being an unmitigated disaster for Repubs in the increased costs everybody will be charged.
What should be happening is just a reset of the law to what it was before Obamacare was foisted on this nation. Period. Then replace it with something that’s not socialized medicine.
It’s obvious the Repubs are terrified of the optics of kicking poor, unhealthy people off this socialist “entitlement” that should’ve never been permitted to be enacted. But that’s how a true repeal and replace would work.
Cruz was right to fall on his sword and force a government shutdown in order to try to stop this crap, because once an “entitlement” buries itself in the body politic like a tick, it’s almost impossible to remove it. Too bad he wasn’t successful.
Why is the President doing this? What is the rush? Why don’t we take time and get it right?

Back when Bush was president, he had a republican congress. Those Republicans morphed into Democrat lite thinking they could buy votes and keep their majority. The voters be damned. Obviously that was wrong because they soon became the minority party.
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are taking us down the same path. These clowns never learn. If Ryan fumbles the healthcare ball, how’s he gonna get tea party support next year when the Democraps are vulnerable in the Senate? BTW, I see Koskinen is still head of the IRS and Lois Lerner is still running free.
