Darrell Issa, who built a reputation in Congress as an imposing conservative attack dog, has got a brand new bag.
With Democrats closing in on his seat last fall, Issa mailed a campaign ad praising President Barack Obama for signing a victims rights bill Issa supported -- the same Obama he unrelentingly criticized while serving as the high-profile chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
The pro-life congressman, who squeaked out reelection to a ninth term by 0.7 percentage points, told constituents at a town hall March 11 that he opposed fellow Republicans call to defund Planned Parenthood.
Despite a lifetime legislative score of just 4 percent from the League of Conservation Voters, Issa also told the crowd that he also opposed any reduction in funding to the Environmental Protection Agency. Two days later, the same politician whos said theres no consensus on climate change joined the House Climate Solutions Caucus.

If we ever get to a Article V Convention of the States, I want to see an amendment that prohibits spending on an election in excess of the pay for that job.

For years and years, when I lived in California, Darrell Issa was considered to be one of our state’s staunchest conservatives.
Now look at him. Just another glad-handing, weasel politician, selling his soul to stay in Congress.
He may as well switch parties now, the lyin SOB.

Reminds me of an age old question are the politicians there to represent their constituents, or there because they want to have power? No matter their initial motivation, once they are in the world of politics, they become beholden to the carrot and/or the stick, unless they were already billionaires without a shameful past. Sometimes they are driven by power, but mostly they want to keep the flow of money coming in, and sometimes they HAVE to keep the flow of money as they owe it all elsewhere. The hugest motivator of all is to avoid national and personal shame and scandal, which could happen if your "owners" release the video of you with that 17 year old, or your secretary, or that male lobbyist, or even alone masturbating to my little pony. Once they get you, they've got you.
Are the conservative ones there representing their conservative values, or do they moderate their views, so as to attract more liberal voters on election day, and get re-elected?
A very few literally represent true conservative values. Tom McClintock for example. Many espouse them but are bought and paid for, owing the farm to those who put them in their seat. Or worse, see above paragraph. And most want to keep that cushy gravy train going.
I think true conservative Americans would love to see a politician espouse conservative principles and SAY they do not care about reelection and mean it. Really represent us and let the chips fall where they may. It seems sometimes that no one retires unless they are hit with some scandal. I guess it's like the rat pushing that lever and getting those treats.

The first and foremost job of any elected official is to get re-elected.
Once you digest that, you know you're dealing with snakes that change skins as seasons require.

MAGA is looking more and more llike a pipe dream... Be strong, Rose. No one ever said it would be easy, taking back our country from the degenerate left, who've been burrowing in for a century now.
We've won some battles, but there's a long war ahead.

Issa is NOT a lawyer. Like Dilbert pointed out, Issa barely squeaked by in the last election against a neophyte who ran a hard-hitting, rather nasty campaign and who's now under investigation for a $300K shortfall in campaign accounting.
Nonetheless, Issa continues to be under constant attack by protestors here and instead of standing strong with President Trump, Issa went on Bill Mahr's HBO Show and made an ass and traitor of himself, which didn't endear him to either side.
I'm stuck with demonic-rat Susan Davis, but I'd advise Issa to retire. He's a worthless wimp. President Trump is great! Issa has missed the Trump train. His loss. Such is the world of a coward without principles.

Switch parties? Issa? LOL.
He wouldn’t have a chance running as a demonic-rat!
Issa is already viewed as a slick $3 bill phony!
He barely squeaked by in 2016.
His chance to win in 2018 rides with President Trump and mass deportation and hopefully a cleansing of CA’s voter rolls.
He’s already well on his way to ruining his relationship with POTUS “in the view of voters.”

Issas district, which straddles the Orange-San Diego county line, is a traditionally Republican stronghold thats trending blue. The GOPs voter-registration advantage of 14 percentage points in 2012 was cut in half by Novembers election, and the district favored Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, 51 percent to 43 percent, according to a Daily Kos analysis. A quarter of the districts voters are independents. Maybe we shouldn't be too hard on Issa as he's a California Republican whose district is changing beneath his feet. But he also shouldn't be a committee chairman or in any real leadership position in the party. He'll probably be the last Republican of any variety to win a seat from that district.

Wonder why Issa wants to remain in the House? Why doesn’t he move to another state?

Well, he’s not someone in his early 20s just starting out. He’s probably caught a case of Potomac Fever like most of them, and wants to be a part of the political elite as long as he can hold on to the seat he now holds.

Are y’all saying that a clone on Maxine Waters will serve us better than a republican who has saved us as well as he has in a tough district???
To: EveningStar
Yes he turns to the Left for his final term in Congress.

I think you can watch McClintock he seems to be following after Issa, he has squeaked us out a few things , but never on the Trump Train completely and sure not singing his Praises.
To: RedWulf
Why wait 2 years. He’s up for re-election in 2018.
To: onyx
I go back to my original question. Does he stand behind Trump no matter what or does he represent the views of his district?

Issa's district was significantly redrawn after the 2010 census. It lost its share of Riverside County, along with most of its share of inland San Diego County. BOTH of those two he lost were pretty much solid conservative.
Those two were replaced with a small portion of southern Orange County. The district became much more competitive on paper than its predecessor.
The old 49th had a PVI of R+10, while the new 49th has a PVI of R+4.
In 2010, Issa won re-election to a sixth term, defeating Democratic nominee Howard Katz 63%31%.
In 2012, Issa was elected to an seventh term, 58%42%.
In 2014, Issa won his eighth term 60% to 40%.
In 2016 June's Open primary, Issa received 51% of the vote to 46% for Democrat Doug Applegate, a retired Marine Colonel.
In October, Applegate and Issa were seen by the Cook Political Report as equally likely to win the election.
Hillary was so far ahead in CA so Applegate cleverly and very nastily tied Issa to Trump in TV ads that played constantly.
Issa sent out a campaign mailer which featured a photograph of President Barack Obama signing a law. The mailer stated that Issa was "very pleased" that Obama signed the Sexual Assault Survivors Rights Act which Issa had co-sponsored. Obama responded to the mailer by saying that Issa's "primary contribution to the US Congress has been to obstruct and to waste taxpayer dollars on trumped up investigations that have led nowhere." Obama said that, because of fading support for Donald Trump, Issa was now promoting his cooperation with the president despite Issa's previous stance that Obama was corrupt.
Issa responded by saying, "I've worked with the administration on good legislation where it was possible, called out wrongdoing wherever I saw it and will continue to do so."
Hence that extremely close 2016 election.
*Issa HAD stuck with Trump until recently and appeared with him at his campaign rallies in San Diego.
(IMHO, Issa's district has pockets of illegal aliens VOTERS. Mass deportations will help fix his district!)
BOTH Issa and Duncan Hunter, (our 2 GOP US Representatives) are getting lots of grief from radical Left protesters at their Town Halls ON PURPOSE and Duncan Hunter already has two demonic-rat challengers (both ugly, screeching, harridans, IIRC) and I'm certain Issa will have one or more challengers too.
