TV Networks Fret as Midseason Shows Fail to Connect With Viewers
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 3/17/2017 | Micahel O'Connell

The year 2017 hasn't been forgiving to the broadcast networks. With a whopping 17 scripted launches since Jan. 1, nearly all new series are languishing with low ratings, even by today's modest standards. But that may not be entirely the new shows' fault: The root of midseason's problem, some say, is the middling fall that preceded it.

"In the past, midseason success was typically built on the foundation established in the fall," says Sam Armando, lead investment director at MediaVest-Spark, noting all but NBC (and sports-lifted Fox) are down this year. "Since only This Is Us popped in the fall, there just aren't any coattails to ride on."

It looks interesting. I’ve been streaming some series on Amazon, but I need much more. I spend a lot of time on the treadmill and it’s been a godsend.

leftist manure leads to cord cutting.

netflicks puts on a leftist lunatic comedian and wonders why cord cutters then cancel subscriptions.

Hollyweird thinks normal people want what weird manure hollyweird wants. Hollyweird is stuck on stupid.

"My wife and I love The Americans"

This is the last season for The Americans. I've been watching it all along.

Oh, I only meant the movie.

It was one of my favorite movies of that era, the two leads were great!

I don’t buy the premium channels, HBO, Cinemax, etc., too expensive.

I’ll watch them when they have their ‘free weekends’ but that’s all.

We watch a lot of DIY, HGTV, Discover, Science and NatGeo type shows......................

I agree. For instance I enjoyed true blood. But season 1 was over the top with sex scenes.

That’s my problem also - I like men best and I just plain like watching them. Too many women, taller than all the men, pretending to understand leadership. All the action stops while the women chat.

You are right! If gay, I tuned off. First Empire, Major Crimes what a stupid gay kid, Modern Family, whole show became gay. When the show is written for 2% of America, turn on Swamp People

"The 1979 movie Time After Time with the same premise is excellent. I really recommend it."

That was a great movie. Malcolm McDowell as H.G. Wells, and Mary Steenburgen in the female role, with David Warner as Stephenson (Jack the Ripper). They were all so much younger in those days. Weren't we all. I believe the movie was where McDowell and Steenburgen met, and then married, and of course then divorced.

You might like Logan (the movie). Kinda of a very violent father-son-father-daughter western theme. The little girl is pretty dangerous though.

I was watching The Last Ship, which was a 13-episode summer show from 2014. Season 1 was 10 episodes, season 2 and 3 were 13 episodes, and seasons 4 and 5 are reported to be 10 episodes each.

Agent Carter season 1 was 8 episodes, and season 2 was 10 episodes. The both ran after the "winter finale" of Agents of Shield, which would return after Agent Carter concluded.

Everything they broadcast is propaganda. I do not want to watch propaganda for gay, or to be told that muzzies are kind, caring, tolerant, misunderstood people.

Read Primetime Propaganda.

"RIP Bill Paxton."

Yep. RIP. He was the reason I gave the show a try. The episode that aired after he died, they had an In Memoriam page for him with a picture, and it said how much they were going to miss him. Then a week or so later, I saw that they had bounced the show to Saturday nights. This really ticked me off. Nothing like kicking a guy in the teeth when he's dead. It just irked me. One minute they're telling him how much he'll be missed, then the next they shipped the show to Saturday, which basically says, sorry mate, but we're more worried about ratings and money. Total disrespect in my opinion.

By 1950s and early 60s standards, TV today is junk and getting junkier.
