Shock: 'Experts' recommend high fat diet for curing a significant disease
The American Thinker ^ | 03/15/17 | Thomas Lifson

The ideology of Progressivism rests on the notion that “experts” should be given free rein to guide the populace in proper behavior, by persuasion if possible, but by governmental law and regulation if necessary. These “experts” could inform the disinterested administrators of a state powerful enough to impose itself on the behavior of the masses too ignorant to chart a personal course for themselves.

The folly of this view is nowhere exposed more nakedly than in the matter of personal eating habits. The advice of the “experts” has been so frequently wrong that the federal government’s dietary guidelines have repeatedly been revised. The “food pyramid” that recommended lots of grains is long gone, replaced by something called MyPlate from the US Department of Agriculture. Pushed by Michelle Obama, of course -- formerly our national food scold, and impetus for more thrown-away school cafetria food than anyone in the nation's history.

***Snip***

As a result, “fat-free” and “low fat” foods have crowded supermarket shelves for decades, even as we get fatter and fatter. I have learned to skip them, not only because they don’t satisfy the palate or the sense of hunger, but because I worry about the health effects of whatever is used to substitute for fat. Does it make sense that something the body craves, that nature supplies in abundance and that traditional cuisines from around the world use, is totally bad?

Ha! You and me both! Low fat turkey bacon...what’s the point? Bacon makes everything better.

“HFLC diet works - period.”

Works great when combined with periodic and intermittent fasting, especially for those who want to lose body fat and control insulin.
See anything by Dr. Jason Fung. https://intensivedietarymanagement.com

HFLC may also help control cancer, too. See anything by Drs. Thomas Seyfried or Dominic D’Agostino.

Good for the soul, too.

That’s interesting but more trouble than I am willing to accomodate

Last summer I visited the Dunkin Doughnut shop at a gas station. I decided to try a latte to see what it’s all about. Well, I got hooked and started buying a vanilla latte on mornings I was traveling.

Well I decided that was too expensive and had wifey buy some stuff at the grocery to add to my coffee. It was pretty good but lacked the texture.

I am going to try some vanilla ice cream microwaved to hot as an additive when the current stuff if all used up.

The cow is a ruminant with a 4 compartment stomach specifically endowed by the creator for digesting rough course foods such as grass. I have one stomach ideally suited for eating the cow. The actually is the first part of my digestive system.

Two years ago I dropped sugar entirely and minimized other carbs as much as possible. Went from 197 pounds to 172 (on 5'10" height). Joints and feet issues went away, so did day naps, energy shot up, as if my biological age got rewound decade or more back.

It's basically absurd to ask sickness industry for advice about food or anything else on how to avoid becoming their customer.

I’m drinking Bulletproof coffee right now. I use pure MCT oil instead of the coconut oil. I’ve been doing it since October and love it.

Cholesterol Clarity
Keto Clarity

Those are the ones that got me started.

I just retired at 76 years old. I worked full time on computer controlled electro-mechanical devices. Always prided myself on my expertise.

About 10 years ago had a heart workup. 0 calcification, no indications of plaque, etc. but my cholesterol numbers were high. Was put on Statins. They didn’t change the numbers much so over the next few years so the dose was increased.

Long story short...I started having problems with sore muscles after heavy lifting which lasted months. I started having problems with cognition. Hard drive rebuilds, software troubleshooting became difficult and I had to start referring to manuals and notes. I would be working on reconfigurations and not be sure I hadn’t missed a step. I was convinced I was becoming senile. The muscle pains became constant. I was becoming depressed because I was convinced I was slowly dying. Fortunately, I overheard a nurse talking about the effects Statins had on her health and how “Keto” diet had helped her. She recommended those books.

SAVED MY LIFE.

Within a few months of getting off the statins I began to recover. My mind is clear, if I pull a muscle, it is clear in a couple of days.

I wonder how many elderly have “dementia” due to Statins blocking cholesterol from their brains.

Statins almost killed me. I refused to take them anymore. A couple of weeks ago, I had a stent implanted in my heart and the entire OR crew told me “good for you!” when they saw on my record that I refused statins. The surgeon told me that a lot of people couldn’t take them.

I can't tolerate them.

I use 2000 mg of niacin.

A number of years ago I decided to try a vegan diet. Very quickly I felt horrible, no energy, no enthusiasm and a 24 hour a day headache.
I didn't lose any weight either.

I need protein! Maybe some people can live without it but I know I can't!

The main part of the article is an important part concerning “progressives” that it cannot be understated and is too often given too little emphasis, and that is “rule by experts”.

THAT is at the top of the “political food chain” of progressives.

They only have any respect for democracy and representative government for one purpose - to create another agency of experts who will thereafter make the laws (”regulations”) on some area, or to add more power to an existing agency. In other words the progressive agenda is 100% about not democracy and representatives making the laws. It is about creating institutions that do not need democracy and representative lawmaking to make the laws; they write the laws themselves known as “regulations”.

The main agenda of progressives is the replacement of democracy and representative government with the administrative/regulatory state - rule by experts.

My wife had banned butter from our house ten years ago. I now buy the Kerry Gold butter from Ireland.

Wife or butter? You chose wisely...

Check this out "How did we come to believe saturated fat and cholesterol are bad for us?" ..... the video in the post is about an hour & WELL worth watching.

Dr. Peter Attia: The limits of scientific evidence and the ethics of dietary guidelines — 60 years of ambiguity

From the link:

As Frederic Bastiat once said, “We must admit that our opponents in this argument have a marked advantage over us. They need only a few words to set forth a half-truth; whereas, in order to show that it is a half-truth, we have to resort to long and arid dissertations.”

This is, unfortunately, quite true. When I’m at a dinner party and someone starts lecturing the table about the perils of saturated fat (or red meat, or eggs, or fill-in-the-blank), I’m at the point – after years of being kicked under the table by my wife – of just asking the “authority” at the table one question: Why do you believe this is true?

I figure, put the burden of proof on them, right? This week, and I apologize for how long overdue this post is, I’m going to get into the details of how this country (and many others who followed our lead) came to believe one of the most pervasive myths in the entire field of nutrition.

To write it all out would require a tome. In fact, such a tome already exists. It’s called Good Calories, Bad Calories. But for most people, especially the “authorities” who already “know” the answer, it’s a complex and lengthy book. Furthermore, it’s not exactly something you can just whip out at a dinner party.

A few weeks ago I gave a talk at the UCSD medical school. I was asked to give a talk about “ethics.” While I have no professional training as an ethicist, I still think I have a good idea about what is and is not ethical. As I’ve learned more and more about this topic, it appears to me that the state of our current nutritional environment, with food policies based on just about everything but rigorous, experimental science, couldn’t make much ethical sense. I’m pretty sure if Plato, Aristotle, and Nietzsche were still around they’d be disgusted with how we got here. So, I was happy to take this opportunity to speak with a group of thought leaders on this important topic.

Below [see link above] is a video combining the audio of my talk with my slide presentation. It’s about an hour long. But as Bastiat essentially said, if you want to overturn half-truths, you can’t do it with bumper stickers. Hopefully you’ll find this talk informative and useful for your dinner party discussions.
