GOP Bill Would Let Your Employer Demand to See Your Genetic Information [H.R. 1313]
NY Magazine ^ | 10 March 2017 | Eric Levitz

Posted on 03/13/2017 9:38:36 AM PDT by Lorianne

Rather than roll back the Safeway Amendment, the House GOP is working to expand its reach. Per Stat News:

A little-noticed bill moving through Congress would allow companies to require employees to undergo genetic testing or risk paying a penalty of thousands of dollars, and would let employers see that genetic and other health information.

Giving employers such power is now prohibited by legislation including the 2008 genetic privacy and nondiscrimination law known as GINA. The new bill gets around that landmark law by stating explicitly that GINA and other protections do not apply when genetic tests are part of a “workplace wellness” program.

The House’s bill is one part of “phase two” of the GOP’s health-insurance-reform plan — a package of regulatory reforms that can’t pass through the reconciliation process, and, thus, need Democratic votes in the Senate.

This has nothing to do with ‘wellness’.

Wellness is the excuse they’re using to get around GINA.

It’s about getting the DNA of every adult in the country. They’ve already got the DNA of every kid born since the late 90’s under the guise of ‘genetic testing’ at birth.

Since humans leave bits and pieces of their DNA every place they go, this database could (and would) also be used by law enforcement.

The attendants of Fedzilla in Congress are always going to expand the power of Fedzilla.
There will be no repeal of Obamacare and its associated agencies. Fedzilla wants to keep all your medical records. Fedzilla never gives up power.

This extends the power to corporations.
Corporatism used to be called fascism.

Demand to see employee genetic information, but get sued if you ask if they were convicted of a crime?

This lead no place good.

No it doesn't. Nothing good can come of this. Nothing.

I did not know until I read the article that this was already in the Obamacare. What else is in there that we will be walloped with at a later time?

Forcing people to reveal their genetic information is something that both socialist and capitalist societies would ultimately lead to.

Socialists will want the information for the "good of the people". They will assume that some people won't get their own genetic info and by requiring them to do so, those people will find out more quickly what health issues they might encounter so they can treat them sooner.

Capitalists will basically say that if you want to get insurance from a company then that company has every right to learn everything pertinent about you. Especially if you are getting individual insurance, or if you are part of a group that might experience similar health issues such as coal miners, etc. After all, car insurance companies can inquire about your driving record. Why shouldn't health insurance companies be able to find out everything that might effect your health?

This is a case where common decency should trump political ideology. Certain things just shouldn't be allowed irrespective if a socialist or capitalist case can be made for them.

Genetic information available to corporate America? The number of times corporate databases get hacked?

Nope. Nothing to see here...

This was always the danger in having your employer cover your health insurance premiums.

Yep. Unintended consequences that were completely predictable.

No, they want to know this so they can fire people that they dont want to cover insurance for. They arent going to be charged more, they will be let go.

Smoking and overweight are things people have a choice about, genetics the do not.

The Dems have a solution. If your DNA says you may be a diabetic you can just identify as a non-diabetic for example. You may even be able to sue your employer if they refer to you with the wrong term /sarc

Who dreams up this stuff?

Think about this to its logical conclusion

they can identify you by DNA.

They can assess all sort of penalties to you based on your DNA profile.

You’re related to some slave owner, or General W.T. Sherman, or Ted Bundy, or whomever...stew on that for a few minutes and think where that could lead.

Blood libel which is the inevitable next step.

Why collect such data if you don’t have some other purpose not divulged. The surface reasoning is thin. There’s more too this than meets the eye.

Choice doesn’t have anything to do with it, unless you just want to punish those who make choices with risk you don’t like.

Insurance companies perform actuarial calculations based on risk pools.

Well, at least Republicans are proposing this. Can you imagine if the Dems were doing this? It’ll be far worse. So we need to keep holding our noses for Republicans.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.....NO !!!

How about we all contact our Congressmen and raise Cain about this unconstitutional proposal.

Can you say "NO MORE INVASION OF OUR PRIVACY!!"

Both Capitalism and Socialism are just a “system” of controls which are evil if there is no virtue in people within the system. If all people were perfect (moral), socialism actually could be “good”-—but that is irrational to believe mankind is “good” normally. Right Reason has to exist in a “civil” society. Christianity and history proved humans are naturally lazy and evil and virtue formation takes effort and hard work.

Virtue is necessary for freedom though (Socrates/Aristotle). Vice creates slaves only—the need for outer controls for the masses, like prisons. Without virtue, there is no ability to be free and all virtue is embedded and habituated in childhood. (PS. Our schools and TV “programming” destroy individuality (thinking outside the box) and destroy virtue formation (agency)).

Trying to pretend that these “systems” can exist without Virtue-—(Justice, Wisdom, Courage, Perseverance) is what has destroyed all socialist countries because with forced “charity” there is no virtue embedded. Socialism embeds dependency and slavery only (vice). Capitalism, without morality, embeds vice (slavery) also.

No civil society can exist without the Christian virtues which developed the concept of individual Natural Rights from God only. There is no “right” to use force against any moral human being and government is always force. Creating a system which forces disclosure of personal information destroys freedom and gives control to others over oneself.

It is what secret societies do-—figure out the weak points in the character of others so they can be set up and bribed (and controlled) for life. People who know your “secrets” can control you.

Marxists and socialists want the information so they can harvest organs for the elites and pick the best breeders and they will kill the inferior genetic stock-—just like Hitler and the socialists intended with their “Aryan Race” and superman program. Immoral Capitalists would want it for the same reasons-—so they could market and sell babies for the sodomite satanic orgies.

There is no civil society without Virtue formation in children. That is why cultures collapse—because debauchery always creates the need for more intense debauchery until you get the diabolical people who will literally kill, sodomize and cannibalize little children for Moloch (pedo-gate)—which is the slippery slope to destroying virtue in all little children (if they live through the rituals.)

Forced collection of genetic information violates 4th and 5th amendments. It's a huge fishing expedition with your genetic information. It should require a warrant with explicit description of what data is sought from that genetic data. Anything discovered outside of the explicit request would be invalid for use or as a topic of a future explicit warrant.

As a molecular biologist, I see lots of room for mischief with your genetic data. Services such as 23andMe will take a genetic sample and return a comprehensive list of all of your identifiable "defects" and the associated risks. In the hands of an insurance company, you have objective actuarial risk issues immediately applied against you. There may be demands for active mitigation or financial penalties for not reducing THEIR exposure to paying a claim when your inherent flaws manifest as a disease in need of active treatment.

Some of your detectable "flaws" may never manifest, but you will be penalized in advance for things that "might" happen.
