Wisconsin Supreme Court: Madison Cannot Ban Handguns for Self-Defense on City Buses

On Tuesday the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that Madison cannot ban handguns for self-defense on city buses.

The court voted 5-2 in favor of carrying guns for self-defense on the buses.

WKOW explained the source of the case in which the ruling was issued:

The Milwaukee-based group ‘Wisconsin Carry’ filed a lawsuit in 2014 challenging Madison Metro Transit’s ban on “weapons of any kind” on city buses. The group claims Madison’s Transit and Parking Commission can’t ban guns on buses under the state’s concealed carry law. Wisconsin Carry President Nik Clark said this is not just a 2nd amendment issue, but it’s also a civil rights issue. Clark said the right to defend yourself and use a gun is fundamental and the right to carry shouldn’t be just for people with their own transportation.

they suggested the preemptive language contained in Wisconsin’s concealed carry law “only applies to counties, cities, villages or towns adopting ordinances or resolutions more strict than the state’s gun law...

But what about the most egregious violators of civil rights - HOAs? Wisconsin could still have work to do.

Not sure about WI, but in TX, any gov property is banned from banning firearms unless it’s already banned by state law - courts, jails, places like that. But any place leased or owned by the gov can’t pick and choose.

Home Owners Associations. Annoying busy bodies who gripe about things like garbage cans left on the curb overnight, political yard signs (we’re allowed one, for 30 days before an election, to be removed within 48 hours of said election) and anything visible from the street painted any color other than a shade of beige. Basically the focus of tyranny in the modern world.

In CA you are given a copy of the CC&R’s before you close Escrow. It’s like a Contract, and I’ll bet most people don’t bother reading the Documents.

If you disagree with the Policies in place don’t buy the House, it’s that simple.

If you already live in a Neighborhood with an HOA, oppose new Rules you disagree with from being implemented by getting Elected to the Board or organizing enough Household Members to Vote against them.

From my experience the HOA’s I’ve been a part of were not as abusive as I have heard, but there are always exceptions.
