Canadian woman en route to Vermont spa denied entry to U.S., told she needs immigrant visa

Manpreet Kooner, 30, is a Canadian citizen who was born to Indian parents in Canada and raised here. She now lives in Montreal's LaSalle borough.

She told CBC she was on her way from Montreal to a spa in Vermont for a day trip with two friends, who are both white, Sunday afternoon. They never made it.

Kooner said she was held at the border for six hours before being turned away.

At one point, she said, a border agent told her: "'I know you may feel like you've been Trumped,'" an apparent reference to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump's January executive order barring citizens from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the country was later blocked in U.S. courts, but has touched off legal battles and confusion around the world.

I used to play hockey on the border with Canadians. There was one guy whose name was as common as common could be. But he was wanted in the US, and he was flagged every single time he tried to cross.

Once you're in the system, it's tag, you're it.

>>There are some Indian Muslims

By some do you happen to mean more than 138 million?

SOMETHING REALLY STINKS HERE! If anyone believes this story is true is a fool. I’m sure there is a much deeper reason for her being turned back.....and I’m sure it’s not in this article.

I think it's cute that her future male Muslim owner [fiance] lets her pose in public without her full-face Muzzie headbag.

Mote that the article didn't explore her religion, so I'll just assume she's a member of the Religion of Women Sex Slaves...

My brother was once turned away from the Canadian border. By Canada. They thought he was up to no good. He wasn’t. Just passing through. Too bad.

I was taking my two daughters and two friends to a church retreat in Windsor, Ontario. I had all their paperwork but didn’t have a permission slip from their parents.

It took some fancy talking but I got them in. If not, no big deal. Turn around, drive a half hour, get permission slip and come back.

told she needs immigrant visa

Another fake story, indeed she does.

FWIW, I live in S.E. Michigan and if I decide to go to Windsor for a night at the casino, I need either a US passport or a Michigan "Enhanced" drivers license that will allow me to pass thru Canadian customs once I cross thru the tunnel.

Upon my return, I need the same identification once I leave Canada and enter thru U.S. Customs where I WILL be challenged........

If I decide to go to Windsor armed with only a drivers license and birth certificate, Canadian Customs ain't going to let me in!

It says she is a Canadian woman. Is she a Canadian citizen?

That's irrelevant to the facts. If she wishes to enter the U.S. from Canada she needs an Immigrant Visa.........

Detroit and its suburban communities are filled with Canadians who work here in the states and commute daily from Windsor to Detroit. All of them are required to have Immigrant visas which require regular renewals. It ain't no big deal.

The other classification, which includes my step-sister who is from Canada but has lived here for approx. 40 years, is a resident Visa which only requires her to renew it every few years...........

That border agent needs to be fired immediately.

Clearly he blocked the Canadian woman precisely to generate anti-Trump publicity.

They have spas in Canada. It's a 45 minute trip going from Montreal to Vermont. It is not exactly a trip to tropical Cancun.

She can cry me a river.

Things have changed then. 25 years ago I was in Detroit on business and took a cab across to Windsor to go to a club. Nothing but a California drivers license for ID. No question on the Canada end, but on the return they quizzed me on city I was born in, name of high school attended, etc. Seemed pretty pro-forma.

I am actually pretty shocked that any foreign citizen can come to America on a “tourism or business” visa. Seems like anyone could do that and simply become a visa “overstay” working and living here illegally and dropping anchor babies years later. Why would any Mexican pay a coyote $5,000 to sneak them across ? Why not buy nice ski clothes, get a tourist visa to ski in Aspen, and disappear from there ? Cheaper and less risky than $5,000 to a coyote.

Things have changed then.

Things have indeed changed. You ain't getting into Canada from Detroit unless you have appropriate documentation..............

And upon your return, if you so much as look at the U.S. customs agent the wrong way, you're going to get your vehicle pulled aside and a full search of its contents will follow......been there, done that.

Why would any Mexican pay a coyote $5,000 to sneak them across

Because they don’t have the $5,ooo. It is on credit and by the time all the payments are made it is much more than that.

For example the guatelamlans give up everything they have there to the local coyote, just for the down payment. They then are moved thru Mexico to a dairy in nw ia and give up half their wages for the next ten years.

coyotes in home village, in transport and in nw ia.
