This from a different source:

"But Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos warned of “consequences”, including potential “retaliation” and a drop in visitor numbers precipitating substantial losses for the continent’s tourism industry."

The EU loses on this one. Americans are notoriously lazy when it comes to leisure travel. If they are told they need a Visa to go to France or Italy (for example), they will just decide to go somewhere else.

The EU will lose YUGE.

(ps: I searched for this and didn't find it. There is also a story on cnn but I won't cite fake news)

Great! Learn something worthwhile! SEE AMERICA FIRST! The “old country” is so passé.

Gee, all those “garden spots” in Eastern Europe I’ve been longing to visit. Oh what will I do?

Poland is much better to visit than Western Europe. At least it still feels like Europe.

Lol, I finally have the money to take my family to Europe, my wife, “Uh, no it’s too dangerous with all those refugees.”

Those countries are going to really pissed. Romanians, for example, are happy to see Americans and will not appreciate the EU sticking their big Belgian noses into this.

Sounds fair to me.
They have the right to control their borders and decide how to admit folks.
If they want us to get visas to visit, that is their choice.
I wouldn’t retaliate.

I’ve been to Romania, Ukraine, and just a whiff of Bulgaria and they are quite lovely in places.

Not a problem, since I have no desire to even visit Europe anymore. It ain’t what it used to be.

Yeah, Poland is probably the notable exception on the list. Frankly, right now, I wouldn’t go anywhere in Europe, except perhaps Switzerland or Northern Italy.

Then people in the European Union that live under the Schengen Agreement will have to get a visa to visit the USA. Payback's a--well, you get the idea. Meanwhile, with Great Britain now on Brexit, they'll visit the USA without a visa and will visit all the US East Coast destinations.

Imposing a visa requirement on US citizens who wish to travel there and spend dollars will have an impact on their tourist economies. Getting a visa is a small inconvenience.

Fine with me. And when they make it too difficult for people from a non-terrorist country to go to theirs, they can become aware that our tourist money will go to Disney World and not there.

Trump has been talking about extreme vetting to reduce the chance of terrorists entering the U.S. The only way to vet people is through the visa application process. Currently the U.S. does not require visas for visitors from 38 countries, including France, Germany, Belgium, and the UK where there are domestic Islamic terror cells active. If the U.S. starts requiring visas from any of those 38 countries in order to vet visitors then those countries will require that we get visas in return.

What the EU failed to bring up while discussing this....this has been a problem for a number of years, and only affecting five countries. Most Europeans countries don’t have a problem, and will absolutely not vote in establishing some stupid visa program....so the odds of this discussion amounting to anything is less than one-percent.

A lot of EU members already have a problem with Cyprus and the way that it sells citizenship.
