Paris and the surrounding region lost 1.5 million tourists on 2016 as visitors, especially from the Far East, stay away due to ongoing terror fears. According to the Comité Regional du Tourisme, the Paris Ile-de-France region also lost 1.3 billion euros in tourist income, while the number of nights spent by foreign visitors in the regions hotels also fell by 10.8 per cent.
Some sights in particular have suffered deeply from the lack of tourists and cancellations by school groups, the committee says, including the Arc de triomphe which saw a 24 per cent drop in visitors.
The Louvre museum, which earlier this month was subject to an attack from a machete wielding man shouting Allahu Akbar, also saw a 13.3 per cent drop last year.
The fears have even hit Disneyland Paris, which saw a 9.5 per cent drop in foreign visitors.

They wouldn’t learn until it’s way too late to stop it. When women are subjugated to third class citizens...
Would love to see the figures on Germany.
Merkel is destroying it.
I haven't been there in 15 years but I can't even imagine what it's like now.
1950: Beirut is the Paris of the Middle East
2017: Paris is the Beirut of Europe
But crooked media and crooked politicians have told us over and over again that diversity is our strength and that invaders help the economy.
Well, what can we say???
If you get too much Muslim terror, it scares tourists away. So your tourism businesses go in the tank, and French officials are complicit in it, all to prove that you are liberal towards Islam.
And what does Islam bring to your country, your culture, your economy?? Is there any benefit to Islam, which offsets these losses of tourism???
In the 1950s, Beirut was considered the Paris of the Middle East.
Now, Paris can probably be called the Beirut of Europe, or probably more accurately, the Tunis or Algiers of Europe.
I was going to go to Paree.. but now I am not.
Just one sample point.
Crap—I didn’t see your post before I wrote mine.
Truly a case of GMTA.
I visited Paris in 1992. Seriously doubt I will ever go there again, or much of the rest of Europe, for that matter.
I was there the year before. I felt like I was in Beijing, there were so many Chinese tourists there.
I suspect that’s where a big drop-off has occurred.
Great post...I like the way you think.
ping!
Our dentist, yesterday, told us his assistant had just returned from Paris. He reported that he did not feel safe walking there!! No surprise to me. We went to St. Denis to see where the French Kings were buried - about ten years ago - and got RIGHT BACK on the Metro. It is definitely a no-go zone.
If you want to experience France without all the Muslims and car burning and snooty attitude just go to Lausanne Switzerland
Merkel is destroying Germany with the sick delight of an old style East German Communist. That antipathy to a united Germany is how she was brought up as a young student. Her greatest dreams of vengance have almost been fulfilled.
Stranger than this are the many citizens of that nation who still support and cheer for her. What’s going on?
Most Germans I know are very intelligent, at least in an intellectual sense. Perhaps it is the sense of survival, the intrinsic right to survive and grow stronger because you are alive, that is what’s missing from so many.
No worries, they can just raise taxes on the businesses that lost tourist business.
You catch my drift.
The difference now, Paris is becoming Beirut in a globe fast filling with Beiruts, J-Burgs, Port Au Princes, etc.
