Senate approves $19.5 billion NASA spending plan
U.S. Senator Bill Nelson ^ | Feb 17, 2017 | U.S. Senator Bill Nelson

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate today unanimously approved a one-year spending plan for NASA that, for the first time, explicitly requires the space agency to send humans to Mars in the next quarter-century.

The bill, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), would give the space agency $19.5 billion for the current fiscal year. It would also, among other things, require NASA to establish a human settlement on Mars and continue the commercial space industry’s development of a new American-made rocket to once again send American astronauts to and from the International Space Station without having to rely on Russia.

“This bill marks the beginning of a new era of American spaceflight by explicitly directing NASA to put humans on Mars and helping our commercial space industry continue to grow,” said Nelson, the top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees NASA.

I am a NASA supporter when they stick to space and not politics. I do think from a strategic standpoint the US needs a long term presence on the moon and mars ahead of other countries. Not sure that necessarily requires humans to be there. I would further automate exploration of space. Much cheaper.

Some one needs to tell the Senate that a voyage to Mars today using rocket tech will leave the crew blind on arrival.

There are several articles on this which were posted on FR some months back - before the election I believe.

Has DJT drained the islamonazi Swamp obama installed at NASA to divert its funding to pro- Islamic “causes” and programming?

Wow. Great news since I was just watching Stanley Kubricks’ released video interview of his making a film of the “fake moon landing”. Look it up. He had it released 15 years after his death so that he wouldn’t be killed, or his family wouldn’t suffer.

We need the truth and should be seeking it always. Never trust the government, ever. This is another interview with Sibril. All fascinating.

President Trump should veto this bill unless all monies being spent on “climate change” have been removed.

Ain’t gonna happen. Mars has no magnetic field and not enough gravity to hold a dense atmosphere.

Any trip of one year or more in weightlessness or low gravity flattens the rear of the eyeball causing loss of vision acuity and eventually blindness. Doesn’t matter what Mars is or isn’t.
