I think they have an air cap. I’m not sure if that continues while it is on the ground. Either way, if he was anywhere near close flying distance to this no-contact, then it was right and proper for the fighter planes to hit the pedal and get there.

Let’s use 900 mph for the sake of argument. That’s 6.6 minutes travel time. How long does it take a scramble from alert through take-off to reach 900 mph?

Where is Otis AFB, Massachusetts? From what I remember (and this is clouded memory, there was a delay in getting the planes off because they didn’t have any armament, namely rockets, on them. Don’t know if the F15 had nose or wing cannons. If they did, and they were installed and loaded, then they could have taken off on command).
If we had been flying those new F-15 Silent Eagles they wouldn’t have made any noise, or so I hear. LOL
