NORAD Fighters Cause 'Sonic Boom' En Route to Intercept Unresponsive General Aviation Aircraft
NORAD ^

Posted on 02/17/2017 8:56:48 PM PST by ameribbean expat

A pair of Air Force F-15s, under the direction of North American Aerospace Defense Command, intercepted an unresponsive general aviation aircraft near the Palm Beach, Fla., area at approximately 7 p.m. EST.

The intercept required the Air Force F-15s from Homestead Air National Guard Base to travel at supersonic speeds, a sound noticed by area residents, to get to the general aviation aircraft where they were able to establish communications.

The intent of military intercepts is to have the identified aircraft re-establish communications with local FAA air traffic controllers and instruct the pilot to follow air traffic controllers’ instructions to land safely for follow-on action.

NORAD was working banker’s hours on 9-11, and the terrorists even struck during banker’s hours...and they were still hopeless to get anything flying (until the very end of the attack).

Thank goodness Russia, or even The Gambia, didn’t attempt to strike us back then.

Like to know more details, like pilots name and why he was unresponsive. Imagine if his last name is Mohammad. Test?

As far as I know, it’s Homestead Air Reserve Base and they fly F-16’s, not F-15’s. I believe the Air Guard in Jacksonville has the alert mission with F-15’s. Maybe they have a few F-15’s TDY to Homestead, dunno.

Fluff piece of USAF pilots scaring a Cessna pilot.

ZERO report that pilot was in Bravo, Charlie, or Delta airspace accidentally.

Sounds like extreme vetting. Was the subject aircraft painted white, to avoid any claims of racism?

The 125th Fighter Wing in Jacksonville has a detachment of F-15s on alert status at Homestead, for air defense.

Yes, better keep them all grounded. /s

This is just a gov’t agencies PR dept saying, “look how we kept the nation safe, Mr. Trump.”

Nothing to be proud about here. Cessna dude was an American who liked to fly. Not as much anymore. Incrementalism. I remember when there were Cessna’s everywhere, now most low airplanes airborne are govt. We used to do low levels across America Pensacola to vegas, lots of GA traffic. Then things changed into being able to cross 7 states at 1000’ and never see a small airplane.

Oh well. Things change I guess.

It is the policy of FR that there is nothing strange about the official government version of what happens on Tuesdays.

It was still Homestead AFB when was there, up until Andrew wiped us off the face of the map in 1992 :/

We had 3 Squads of F16s, and the reserve 482nd were also using F16s.
