President Donald Trump’s border wall only needs to stop about 10 percent of illegal crossing in order to pay for itself, according to an analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies.
The estimated $12 to $15 billion cost of the wall would quickly be offset by the savings to the government if fewer illegal immigrants arrive in the country over the next decade, CIS found. Only a small portion of the population of people who are expected to attempt an illegal crossing in the next decade — between 9 and 12 percent — would have to be stopped for the wall to totally pay for itself.
The analysis from CIS, a group that advocates for moderating immigration levels, relies on fiscal estimates from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NAS) for the average cost to taxpayers of illegal immigrants. NAS estimates one illegal immigrant costs state and local governments approximately $75,000 in a lifetime, taking into account taxes paid and the cost of providing benefits such as education and health care.
If Trump’s border wall stopped between 160,000 and 200,000 people from entering the country illegally, CIS finds, the savings would offset the expected cost of the wall. . .

The wall is cost-effective at 12%. But it has to be designed to be much more effective. It won’t keep everyone out, but it will keep the vast majority out and make the ICE job more manageable, allowing ICE to go after our existing inventory of criminal illegal aliens.
It will keep all of Obama’s “unaccompanied” toddlers from getting in. Their sperm and egg donors won’t be able to set them down on the ground, point them north and boot them in the ass to get them crawling towards the U.S.

ICE doesn’t do border, US Customs and the US Border Patrol do the border thing.
The wall will be great at stopping truckloads of drugs and human trafficking from easily coming through. Nothing is 100%, but it would have a massive impact and make these things more costly for the bad guys. It will also slow down the coyote’s and make them charge much more which will lower volume drastically. Basically it will make it way less attractive for people to come here illegally.
Agreed. But if the wall keeps the border secure, ICE can reduce our existing inventory of criminal illegal aliens instead of going after new illegals that make it past the Border Patrol and the wall. The only way to fix the illegal situation is to both stop them at the border and deport those who are already here. A good wall should make the problem completely controllable at the border for our Border Patrol, and that should give ICE a chance to make a dent in the accumulated problems from three decades of non-enforcement.

Nobody should be released from LEO custody without seeing an ICE agent first to prove you are a US citizen or legal alien.
That would be U.S. Customs and Border Protection, of which the Office of Border Patrol is a part.

Combined with aggressive deportation of illegals whenever they are found and prosecution of anyone employing them and 99% of the illegals will self deport.
Haven’t heard it mentioned yet but if there’s a pandemic in Mexico or Central America or if an economy completely collapses Soth of the border you’re talking potentially millions crossing into our country.
Savings to the government (That’s you and me, folks!) would also increase if we stopped paying benefits to non-citizens. That INCLUDES Obama’s Muslim invasion! Charities can take up the slack for those who are still here after the big Trump shakeup.
Another reason for the WALL. Then we can decide how charitable we want to be in helping them stay where they are.

A CPA poster here on FR did an analysis a couple of years ago that a woman with 2 kids on welfare with Sect 8 & other benefits is sucking about $56,000 PER YEAR out of the USA taxpayers.
Construction of the wall will see 10,000 lawsuits filed against it, from wetland protection to endangered species impacts to Indian Reservations saying it’s illegal incursion, etc. At least one of them will have some roque judge who says it’s totally illegal and the press will say Trump should be impeached for suggesting it. So be it, get it done!
