Less than a month into his presidency, Donald Trump's enemies are already scenting blood. They hope they have got him on the run over the resignation of Michael Flynn as his National Security Adviser.
Flynn was forced to stand down for secretly discussing sanctions against Russia with the country's ambassador to America in the weeks before Trump took office and then trying to cover up his foolish and possibly illegal behaviour.
It is being suggested that Flynn's goose was cooked by the FBI and CIA, who had tapped these phone-calls, and gleefully leaked transcripts of them. Was this pay-back time for Trump's recent dismissive criticisms of the U.S. intelligence services?
And are the CIA and the FBI also conspiring against their commander-in-chief because they disapprove of his stated intention to try to mend fences with Russia?
Whatever the truth, Flynn was clearly out of order in discussing sanctions with the Russian ambassador, and then pretending he had not done so. He obviously had to go.
But it does not follow that the more constructive policy towards Russia championed by Trump and Flynn should also be jettisoned, as the CIA and America's military Establishment not to mention much of the country's media would apparently like....

Trying to wedge Russia away from Iran seems to be a good idea.
>>Trying to wedge Russia away from Iran seems to be a good idea.
Not for the closet Muslim Brotherhood operatives that Obama let into the US intelligence community. This is the real problem and the Low-Information types that infest our nation can’t understand it. They just chant whatever the astroturf organizers tell them to chant.
Trust but verify. Pals? No, acquaintances with possibilities of friendship.
I saw Little Tommy Freidman on the tube tonight saying that the Russki hacking of the unsophisticated, sickly and frail Clintoonie was worse than Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Shouldn’t we be at war with the Russkis by now? Day of Infamy and all that? I have to admit, “Remember Clintoonie’s Toilet Server!” would be a crappy battle cry but we can work on that after we drop the first nuke on Moscow.
Right and no one said we have to be “pals” with Putin.
We should let diplomacy work towards mutual understanding and prevent hostilities!
Someone should lock “McBane” in the Crongressional lavatory!

BUMP!
President Trump is for working with Russia in cases where doing so is in the interests of the United States.
Senator McCain wants to wage World War 3 against Russia.
I’m on President Trump’s side.
1. The next cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is scheduled to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan one week from today.
2. Three of the four manned missions to the ISS scheduled for this year have Russian commanders, not NASA commanders.
Does this sound like a working relationship that either nation would ever want to jeopardize?
I really think Trump needs to go on the offensive on this. This “worse than Watergate” meme is insane, but will be an effective rallying cry for the left/GOPe.
Trump needs to take out a few Dems, a few Senators and consultants/media figures like Karl Rove. Someone (Roger Ailes?) needs to expose their corruption and they need to be removed from public life.
I suppose Trump knows he needs to go on the offensive, and likely will. He isn’t just going to take this sitting down. (Remember bringing those women to the debate?).
I hope he hits back a million times harder.
I’m pretty sure Donald Trump didn’t go through all that bullsh!t in the GOP primaries and the general election campaign last year just to get derailed by a bunch of @ssholes in the Beltway Swamp.
*cough* um
Actually next resupply to ISS is Falcon 9 launch on 18 February from Complex 39A KSC

But, the Progress launch is important too...they usually work
Usually....!
If Trump were to bad mouth Russia/Putin non-stop for months, it would preclude us ever having at least a civil dialogue between us.
For Trump to do that, would make him seriously non-presidential.
Trump isn’t going into this relationship with stars in his eyes. He knows what he is up against, just like he does in the Middle-East Peace process.
You do the right things, and hope for better than you expect. If you don’t get it, you’ve lost nothing. You tried.
It’s impossible to think anyone would disagree with this. Then you realize that some movements are stupid enough to think that war with Russia would be a good thing.
The Left in the U.S., the MSM, and a number of globalist entities have made it quite clear they think Russia needs to be attacked for it’s actions.
That would certainly get us in WWIII, but the only people who would die, would be those always tasked with fighting wars. The globalists would have their asses covered.
So when someone tries to make the case Putin is a bad guy, and we must do something military against him, disregard them. Cooler heads will prevail, and we may have a thaw because of it.
I think the U.S. and Russia should become closer, not more estranged. We’re going to have to deal with China, and I’d rather Russia be more in our camp than theirs.
There’s a lot riding on this.
Trump is playing it just right. I really appreciate it.
If Russia does go whack-o-bird (otherwise known as McCainsanity), we can always deal with it just like we would have if we hadn’t done our best. So why not do our best to have good relations?
“Trying to wedge Russia away from Iran seems to be a good idea.”
That’s interesting, that is exactly what I was reading about and, honestly, it would be hard to split such an alliance.
But there are other reasons to try to have cordial relations with Russia. They are the 2nd most powerful nation on earth.
It’s sad with Flynn, the guy did work for Turkey though, got fired before; yes, the political assassination of Flynn may well have been to keep the US from forming good relations with Russia.

Absolutely!
So true too.
I second that.
The Falcon 9 launch isn't a resupply mission. The payload for that mission includes equipment that is being sent to the ISS for its ongoing scientific work.
The Progress mission is specifically to resupply the crew of the ISS.
Sorry for the confusion.
