And I fully expect, the next time Russia takes a slice of some other defenseless neighbor, to hear the same excuses. Or when China takes the Spratly Islands . . . I will be the one accused of being the warmonger. Par for the course.

Russia will never give up the Crimea willingly. That is absurd. Might as well demand them to give up Moscow.

Frankly, I don’t despise Russia . . . I despise people who purport to defend its illegal annexation of a sovereign nation’s territory by asking me why I despise it.

This is a nonstarter.

Giving Crimea back to Ukraine would cost Putin his Russian presidency.

If this was really announced at WH, what idiot approved it!

It’s just staking out a negotiation position. It doesn’t have to be practical or realistic.

I see nothing incoherent. The sentiment behind the words is very plain.

I heard Spicer say that in the press conference today. It went by very quickly among several statements Spicer made to establish that President Trump would be tough on Russia when necessary.

I was not encouraged to hear it because I seriously doubt Russia will give Crimea back to Ukraine and I don’t think it could be proven that the people living in Crimea wish to be part of Ukraine.

Many elements inside the Beltway are trying to thwart Trump’s efforts to improve relations with Russia before he even has a chance to meet with Putin. I think Iran and maybe Ukraine itself should be the tough negotiating points, not Crimea.

Trump doesn’t give a damn about Crimea or Ukraine.

This is some sort of 3D chess troll for the neo-cons.

Bark loudly about Ukraine and never do a damned thing.

Tell Putin in private so he can laugh about it as well :-)

Did you support US involvement in the coup leading up to said annexation ?

That is my point. It’s extreme, which takes the wind out of the sails of the neocon cold warrior chicken hawks.

Missed your post. I agree. Next ask them for a campaign plan and proposed order of battle. Then laugh them out of the room.

Then you must hate America as well for our conquest and annexation of Kosovo. We set the world standard for what happened in the Crimea with our invasion of Kosovo.

this has to be fake news because DJT is a bright person...
he realizes that Russia will never agree to any such demand

right or wrong, making demands is not a good long term way of getting cooperation or working things out....
especially when the demands obviously will not work

I therefore agree that this article just has to be Fake News
(regardless of what anyone may want or think about Russia)

Mattis is a lot like Trump? How so? One had a life of service to his nation and risked his life. The other...well telling Trump’s biography upsets some folks so I won’t do that.

What does Fake News mean to you? Is it news you don’t like, or news that didn’t really happen, or a way to deny something that did happen but that you don’t agree with?
