More Patriots players refusing to visit the White House; it could change a great tradition forever
Yahoo ^ | February 12, 2017

Six Patriots ... will not partake in the tradition.

[Snip]

In the past, most players avoided controversy by saying their decision was based on other factors, such as a scheduling conflict or family commitments.

But with Trump in the White House, that tone seems to be changing. And now that the door to openly challenge the White House is open, more athletes could follow suit, just as some did when Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

If declined White House visits become more common, it would be a problem for the leagues, the teams, and the White House.

Yeah it’s been covered. Not quite so breathlessly, but covered. James Harrison of the Steelers refused to go both times they won, once for Bush, once for Obama, said he thought the tradition was dumb and he had better things to do.

Maybe I’m alone on this one, but I think it is a tradition we don’t need and won’t miss.

Agreed.

Gee Whiz!...I wonder what would have happened if any players refused to go to the Obama White House...?

I’m told that many players have refused to go to the White House for this event over the years but no one said anything about it. Of course everybody has to get their two cents in these days for a little media attention.

Yes, Kraft said they’ve always had about 10 players who for one reason or another don’t go. No media notice - until now.

I never thought the inviting winning teams to the White House was a “great tradition.” Honoring the teams became political and gave the pampered putzes an excuse to make a statement by not going. I don’t watch the NFL or NBA because of the leagues’ political statements. NCAA is soon to be abandoned by me as well. I go to local college baseball games, that is all.

It goes both ways. It is no longer a hell of an honor for a Republican White House to receive these Marxist, BLM players either.

The b@$+@*d$ despise the USA, but suck her opportunities dry, while howling for more.

“it is a tradition we don’t need and won’t miss.”

Agree. The NFL is dead.
Giving Texans an ultimatum that they allow perverts to share public restrooms with their wives and daughters? I don’t think so. The NFL just doesn’t know it’s dead yet.
Like the WH correspondents dinner.
It was a love-fest when Zero was soiling the WH. I can only imagine the hatred and contempt these hyenas will show Trump .. but all in good fun, of course.
When the reason for a tradition ceases, so should the tradition.
Trump should start some new ones. Behaved lefties allowed, but like most of us I’m fed up with their fake outrage.

When women’s NCAA volleyball is on the invite list it’s not that special anymore.

Yeah, sure. Winning four consecutive national championships and sustaining a 3-year winning streak of 109 matches is not special at all.

In today’s environment everything is political...

I think it’s OK for a player to decide not to go.

I don’t think Trump will be offended by those not attending.

The day after the visit no one will care who attended and who didn’t... except maybe the owner and the coach — in deciding the pay and the roster next year.

These six guys will need to stand tall and get ready to be traded or face minimum pay raise (if at all). I can see reduction in playing time also.

So the multi-millionaire negroes are not going to the white house to show how ‘oppressed’ they are....got it. Keep that in mind next time they come with their hat in hand looking for tax dollars to pay for their stadiums.

RIP.NFL

Trump already had Kraft at his place in FL. I hope Trump stops this tradition.

Winning four consecutive national championships and sustaining a 3-year winning streak of 109 matches is not special at all.

That's because of the lack of competition apparently. The huskies women's team won 100 straight??? You would never see that in mens basketball, so you have to ask yourself why? Competition.

Obama killed the tradition, right there. Hating America makes the difference in the two cases. See the obvious and you’ve got a clue.

Bark acted against America’s interests. A few athletes who loved her declined to participate.

Because Trump defends and protects American interests and traditions, these hate America First bubbas stay home.

Kill the tradition. Cut the criminals loose.

I would rather have great scientists who take us to the stars, or cure cancer, or create computers, or who created refrigeration etc visit the white house, than illiterate thirty something year olds who can run or kick or jump or throw
