Jeff Sessions says if Americans don’t want him to enforce marijuana laws, they should change them

If the American people are worried about freshly confirmed Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ approach to enforcing federal marijuana laws, he says they should get Congress to change them.

“It’s not so much the attorney general’s job to decide what laws to enforce. We should do our jobs and enforce laws effectively as we’re able,” Sessions said during his hearing. “The U.S. Congress made the possession of marijuana in every state — and the distribution — an illegal act. If that’s something that’s not desired any longer, Congress should pass a law to change the rule.”

If Sessions, for example, starts raiding Colorado marijuana shops, he will not be in the right.

Hopefully Colorado jurors would make this an expensive exercise in futility.

It sounds very nice, fair, and balanced to say we can’t choose which laws to enforce.

However, the reality is leaders always have their priorities and chart their course for which areas to identify as the most critical.

Obama set his priority to identify conservative Christian patriots as dangerous, extreme domestic terrorists, and directed harassment against them (ex. IRS targeting, LEO and military training videos, etc).

President Trump has already made it clear he wants the drug cartels eviscerated. Great! Go after the hardcore drugs! Use taxpayer money judiciously and target the real threats to our society. Mj is not one of them.

That is the point.

“58% of the American people are Libertardians?”

58% apparently have more sense than you do. More than that percentage express themselves more maturely.

Freedom is a good thing, and marijuana should be legal if tobacco and alcohol are legal.

>>Patriots are warned that if they do not support Pres. Trump and Sessions in peacefully “forcing” the corrupt feds to surrender state powers that the feds have been stealing from the states back to the states, then it is only a matter of time before corrupt Congress is once again working in cahoots with a lawless president to use those stolen powers to oppress the sovereign states and their citizens.

A powerful and spot on warning. Can’t say it any better than that!

a spokesman for President Trump made it clear Sessions would be implementing the Trump agenda, which is promising for the marijuana industry.

Donald Trump has supported state’s rights in legalizing and establishing marijuana policies.

That sounds promising - but I'd like a direct quotation and a name for this spokesman.

Possession and or disturbution make marijuana for all intents and purposes effectively illegal. It’s a meaningless distinction.

“Congress should change the law. Too many freedoms have been lost so some guy can’t smoke a joint, eat Cheetos, and watch cartoons.”

There are a LOT of people who love seeing a boot on someones neck. On FR many talk about an overbearing Federal government then cheer when some pothead gets busted and his property gets confiscated and his dog gets shot. I think a lot of it is religious for some reason although Cannabis was once one of the most commonly used medicines and no one protested it.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions can do it all by himself! So why the deception?

Taking marijuana off the list would legalize it nationally. Sessions doesn't want to do that.

Congress could act to allow states legally to opt out (which many have already done -- in defiance of federal law).

Presumably that wouldn't have the effect of legalizing pot in other states. That's my guess, anyway.

It’s really not that simple. Because, as you know we have many of thousands of laws and hundreds of thousands of bureaucratic regulations with the force of law.

As many including Madison have essentiialy said, when you have too many laws you really don’t have any law because almost everyone can be found in violation of one or several laws and enforcement of the law devolves into the selective enforcement of the government’s or government agency’s adversary. Then, you have rule by men instead of rule by law.

Stalin’s spy chief Beria summed it up best. “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime”

Sessions is a smart guy, respects the constitution and I’m sure he is well aware of our current situation with respect to an overabundance of laws, especially rules issued by unelected bureaucrats. Can we say that the constiution unequivocally empowers the Federal government to regulate food, drugs etc? What about the DEA, ATF, FBI? Yes, if it’s the annotated constiution, with its grotesquely expansive version of the commerce clause, but no under an originalist interpretation. Those laws with respect to food and drugs should be enacted in the states. The Federal government role comes into play when case and issues need to be resolved and reconciled (that is made regular) between the states. In addition to protecting individual rights, that’s what Federal courts were originally intended to do.

The DOJ does not have an unlimited budget. Sessions will need to make choices. I’m fairly sure he will go after heroin dealers and cocaine rings. He must go after treasonous politicians like the klintoons, criminal aliens and terrorists.

That being said, one can’t expect Sessions to publicly state that he won’t enforce certain laws becuse that would be an improper appropriation of power to his office.

So fedzilla sets the rules on who may be a teacher also.

You commit a felony, you lose rights. It's been that way a long time. I'm against encroachment by fedzilla as much as anyone, but these are clear, long-time laws.

“58% apparently have more sense than you do. More than that percentage express themselves more maturely.”

Huh?

I support universal legalization. People should be free to grow and smoke as much of this plant as they wish in all 50 states. Without taxation or regulation.

If the hated Trump presides over a marijuana legalization law, will the smokers boycott weed?

Caveat: I’m in favor of Federal legalization. It frees DEA to work against meth and heroin, which saves time and money. It gets rid of the patchwork legalization for medical/recreational use that we have now and with legal weed available, street sales of pain killers and overuse of prescription opiates will decline. Cheaper pot, more state & federal tax revenue, more cost effective drug enforcement. People want it, they should tell their critters.

Being from Alabama, I’m sure he is aware of Carly Chandler who has blatantly violating federal law for a couple of years now. Perhaps he should start his crackdown with her.

Authorized by the Alabama Legislature in 2014, Carly’s Law gets its name from the 4-year-old daughter of the Birmingham area’s Dustin and Amy Chandler. The Chandlers have been pushing to allow the study of CBD oilthat could potentially benefit children and adults suffering from seizures, including their daughter who has a rare genetic disorder called CDKL5.

It’s human nature. People don’t really want freedom. If the Federal government actually restricted itself to its Constitutional powers, most FReepers would crap their pants.

Since voters in many states no longer want it to be criminal to partake of God’s herbal remedy (or poison), the FedGov ought to simply rescind the overall law.

Let individual states outlaw or allow it.

I would NOT say the same for methamphetamine, opioids.
