If the American people are worried about freshly confirmed Attorney General Jeff Sessions approach to enforcing federal marijuana laws, he says they should get Congress to change them.
Its not so much the attorney generals job to decide what laws to enforce. We should do our jobs and enforce laws effectively as were able, Sessions said during his hearing. The U.S. Congress made the possession of marijuana in every state and the distribution an illegal act. If thats something thats not desired any longer, Congress should pass a law to change the rule.

And Trump agenda stays intact! In response to the dem's lying about Colorado residents losing their rights, if he wins, he muttered something like "I'll make it legal in all 50 states!" or at least that's what I seem to remember...
Congress should change the law. Too many freedoms have been lost so some guy can’t smoke a joint, eat Cheetos, and watch cartoons.
Wow! This is so refreshing. NTOWY
Anyone remember our Congress critters sponsoring a bill to enforce immigration laws in sanctuary cities? Such is the insanity that prevails when they look the other way too often and for too long.
We can blame our own "representatives" for all the criminal activity going on because they would not insist on enforcing the laws.
Precisely
I know that some folks in certain states want people to be able to get stoned anytime. Swell but so far they ain’t the majority. Moreover let’s get real Sessions has bigger fish to fry this shouldn’t be his top priority
I’m for legalized MJ, even though I don’t smoke, but Sessions is correct, that is the proper way to go about things.
One problem with that—they need the easy $15 from Soros to buy their weed.
‘If Trump wanted to end the protests... pushing for legalization would appease most of them.’
I’ve been wondering if Obama’s relative quietude might be connected to this idea. I.e.: maybe he’s flaming hard (a la Marley) to make up for lost choom time.
Just a thought.
Yeah, but we aren’t a nation, we are a United States. The constitution doesn’t give a word or even a hint that the federal government should regulate plants or the uses of them with a state.
This clearly under the 10th amendment leaves it to the states.
If Sessions, for example, starts raiding Colorado marijuana shops, he will not be in the right. He will be erasing states and reducing them to mere administrative districts of the national government. They will only be able to pass laws that fully harmonize with fedgov, so what’s the point of having a state? Fun for people who want to stop pot. But it will suck if you care about private property, local control of elections, gun ownership, fracking and drilling, healthcare laws, and CCW rights, etc. Anyone remember the states that refused to do Obamacare? I don’t want a fedgov so strong it can wipe out anything a state does.
We might not always be in charge, strengthening fedgov is always the wrong plan.
Man, this Sessions dude needs to mellow out.
He should smoke some weed and mellow out.
Americans are like way more mellow than those Japanese and German and Chinese workers.
Who needs jobs, man, when you’ve got weed?
We philosophically differ. You are technically right about United States versus a sovereign federal nation but the states ceded authority for certain functions in the Constitution to a Federal Government. I believe that a national policy of drug control at least in some manner is for the overall benefit of all states. There are more than one instance of “health and general welfare.”
But in the end, you and I differ I guess. I’ll vote one way and you can vote another.
Lincoln made the states the bitch of the Feds. States rights died the day the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered.
Ooooooohh...how cagey...and deceptive!
No law needs to be written to change the rule. All that needs to be done is have the schedule changed.
21 U.S. Code § 811 - Authority and criteria for classification of substances
Well look at that!
Attorney General Jeff Sessions can do it all by himself! So why the deception?
That's the same attitude Hillary had about Deplorables and Unredeemables. I would bet there are more Americans that want pot legal, than want free abortions. Trump has an opening to a lot more support, if he wants to take advantage of it.
I hadn’t thought of that. Arrest and convict them of felonies and they are barred from teaching and holding public office. Brilliant!
That is not how it works.
The Attorney General does not have unlimited resources to go after everything on the books. Out of resource necessity, he must pick at choose. That becomes his discretion.
Now, Congress needs to do as he said and make Marijuana legal with each state handling it as their legislatures see fit to do.
I’m not gonna argue about “coulda.” The AG can go after whatever he feels is a priority using the resources he has available. It is called prioritization.
You put health and general welfare in quotes. Nothing in the constitution says anything about promoting health. And the states never ceded to the fedgov the ability to dictate such minutiae to the daily lives of people in the states.
It was seized by FDR in a gross misuse of the interstate commerce clause.
I am always amazed at the willingness of so called conservatives to submit to a deeply invasive, all knowing, all powerful, coercive fedgov as long as we get to be in charge.
